📌C-section scar desensitization

It’s very common for the scar area and abdomen to feel sensitive to touch, numb, or even painful to touch. The nerves and tissue that were cut through need time and assistance in healing and regenerating. You can add these simple strategies to help move that along! Work around the scar while your incision is still healing, then once the incision is fully healed you can start working directly on the scar.

Let me know if you have questions below!

Using an abdominal binder can be super helpful immediately after a C-section. It offers a nice support to the abdominal muscles and incision area which can help with pain management and mobility. I usually recommend using them whenever you’re up moving around the first couple weeks after a C-section. Then you’ll want to wean from it and start working on activating your deep core and pelvic floor muscles to build back in your abdominal strength.

Just make sure they aren’t too tight— you want to be able to take a full breath without restriction. If it’s too tight you can create increased pressure down into your pelvis and lead to pelvic heaviness/pressure or leakage. Limiting your ability to take a full breath also creates a dysfunctional pelvic floor system!

What’s the difference between a belly band and a sacroiliac belt?

A belly band can be helpful for low back pain, round ligament pain by offloading some of the baby belly weight so it’s not creating more work for the back muscles. These often go higher around the pelvis.

A sacroiliac belt (I.e. Serola belt) is more sturdy and adds support to the bony pelvis— this can be more helpful for p***c symphysis pain, SI pain vs using a belly band.

I love me some good ole pelvic floor relaxation BUT it’s not the whole story…and it can be very nuanced. Let’s build a healthy pelvic floor that knows how and when to do its job depending on what you’re doing!
