Curious about what the CMS public comments say about the RPM/RTM proposal?
The message is clear: both CMS's peers in government and healthcare as a whole (patients, clinicians, physicians, and systems) are strongly pushing back against proposed changes that could limit patient access to remote patient monitoring and therapeutic monitoring.
Did the parties show up to have their voices heard? Yes.
RPM/RTM ranked as the 2nd most discussed topic overall, for comments focused on a single topic. MiCare Path’s analysis of the CMS 2027 Physician Fee Schedule public comments found nearly 3,000 comments addressing RPM and RTM, despite these services representing just 7 of 487 identified proposed changes.
Did these parties agree with the Proposed Ruling? No.
The opposition numbers are striking:
• 95.1% opposed requiring an initiating visit.
• 91.7% opposed requiring W2 employment for clinical staff.
• 88.2% opposed the proposed reimbursement pricing crosswalks.
And the response extends beyond the open comment period. 32 members of Congress and two U.S. senators have independently urged CMS to reconsider changes that could threaten access, increase administrative burdens, and make these programs harder to sustain.
The concerns go beyond reimbursement. They are about protecting access to care, supporting clinical teams, and ensuring patients can receive the care and support they need between office visits.
The good news is that virtually all parties aligned on the methods needed to tighten clinical and operational processes and ensure the highest-quality, integrated care delivery for these critical medical solutions in the U.S.
