✨ 2026 NAHSE Memphis Men’s Health Month Professional Spotlight

Today, we honor Demarcus Nash, MHA, at UT Regional One Physicians!

💭 What song, quote, or motto keeps you motivated?

“My role gives me the privilege of connecting with individuals from diverse backgrounds, which continually shapes and inspires my perspective. One quote that motivates me daily is by Maya Angelou: “People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.”

🩺 From your perspective, what does Men’s Health Month mean to you, and why is raising awareness around men’s health important?

“Men’s Health Month is a reminder that true self-care includes mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, all of which support success in our personal and professional lives. While exercise and healthy eating matter, real progress starts with self-awareness, building a relationship with a primary care provider, and staying mindful of what we put into our bodies. By staying active, monitoring key health indicators, and remaining intentional about our health, we can move in the right direction—I know I still have room to grow, but I’m encouraged by the progress I’ve made.”

🌟 What message, advice, or words of encouragement would you share with men regarding prioritizing their health, wellness, leadership, or personal well-being?

“Growth requires humility and a willingness to reflect honestly on where we are. Sometimes the next level in our lives or careers isn’t about learning more, but unlearning habits, mindsets, or beliefs that no longer serve us. By staying open to learning, unlearning, and relearning with new wisdom and perspective, we position ourselves for meaningful growth—work to apply this mindset daily.”

👏 Thank you Demarcus, for sharing your insight, encouragement, and perspective as we recognize Men’s Health Month and the importance of prioritizing wellness, leadership, and personal well-being.

✨ 2026 NAHSE Memphis Nurses Week Spotlight

Today, we honor Domecia Newmon, APRN, FNP-BC at ShotRX Family Medicine!

🩺 What inspired you to pursue a career in nursing?

“I knew from an early age that I wanted to help others. Nursing affords me the opportunity to do that in so many ways. Nursing allows me to educate, advocate and support people and families in vulnerable situations. It allows me to combine my passion for caring for others and ministry. Nursing gives me the platform to answer the call that God has placed on my life. It’s not just a career; it’s a way of life that provides satisfaction and immeasurable gratification. It’s the life I’ve always wanted.”

✨ What impact do you hope to make through your work in nursing?

“In a word, ADVOCACY! My goal is that every patient I am blessed to encounter is heard, seen, respected and supported, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. I hope each patient walks away knowing that there is an advocate for them in healthcare and that each receives a glimpse of the love of God through my care.”

👏 Thank you Domecia, for the incredible impact you continue to make in our community. We are proud to spotlight your leadership and excellence!

✨ 2026 NAHSE Memphis Nurses Week Spotlight

Today, we honor Faiza Harris Dang, MSN, RN, NI-BC, CAHIMS at Regional One Health!

🩺 What inspired you to pursue a career in nursing?

“While my husband was prepping to deploy to Afghanistan, I had our first daughter via cesarean section (c-section). I was scared and lonely as a new mother during the 3 days in the hospital, and I remember the nurse who showed me so much compassion as she provided excellent patient care. The nurse took time out of her busy schedule to educate and encourage me during that vulnerable time of my life, and that act of kindness was the pivotal moment that changed my life forever.”

✨ What impact do you hope to make through your work in nursing?

“I hope to make an impact by helping current and aspiring nurses feel confident, supported, and empowered as they grow into leaders in a rapidly evolving and technologydriven healthcare environment. As an IT Lead Clinical Informaticist, I work to transform complex technology, data, and workflow challenges into solutions that genuinely improve efficiency, clinician experience, and patient safety. Ultimately, my goal is to strengthen the nursing profession by supporting the people who carry the heart of healthcare.”

👏 Thank you Faiza, for the incredible impact you continue to make in our community. We are proud to spotlight your leadership and excellence!

✨ 2026 NAHSE Memphis Nurses Week Spotlight

Today, we honor Porsha Pettaway, DNP, NEA-BC, NI-BC, RN at Department of Veteran Affairs (Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr VA Medical Center)!

🩺 What inspired you to pursue a career in nursing?

“Although I initially chose a different career path after college, it was not fulfilling. I’ve always been drawn to healthcare.  When I finally looked at where my passions and strengths aligned, nursing stood out as the path that offered the broadest opportunities to make a meaningful impact. It allowed me to combine my interest in healthcare, my previous career, and my commitment to serving others in a way that felt both purposeful and aligned with who I am.”

✨ What impact do you hope to make through your work in nursing?

“The impact I hope to make through my work in nursing is to ensure that our profession consistently has a seat at the table.  Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system, and the work cannot move without us. My goal is to elevate the visibility, influence, and advocacy of nursing so that our contributions are fully recognized and our expertise drives meaningful, patientcentered change.”

👏 Thank you Porsha, for the incredible impact you continue to make in our community. We are proud to spotlight your leadership and excellence!
