Why is Holistic Centered Treatment different?

So many individuals living with complex chronic pain - CRPS, AMPS, Fibromyalgia, etc. - have exhausted other treatments. They've done blocks, PT, SCS, DRG, LLLT, HBOT, chiropractic, acupuncture, ketamine, scrambler, etc. Yet they are not getting the relief they need.

We go beyond just treating symptoms. We take a top-down approach with treating the whole person.

Our 10-year outcomes show that most CRPS patient had an 88% reduction in pain at 1 year, and their quality of life increased by 6 points or 345%!

This is life changing.

Life beyond CRPS. Remission is possible.

As a competitive gymnast, a sprained ankle in 2019 turned into CRPS. Officially diagnosed in 2021 - she exhausted other treatments.

She was told - CRPS was her new life. She was told she would never compete again.

She started her Intensive with pain levels of 8-9/10. Her CRPS involved her right foot, ankle, leg and back.

It's been 4 years and she remains in long-term remission. Today, she's a senior in high school and she's involved in competitive cheer!

Emotional Regulation

One of the most important skills we need to master is emotional regulation.

If we don’t have the power to regulate our feeling or our response to a situation or an event – then the situation or event has the power over us. As opposed to us having the power at that moment.

Our emotions and how we respond to stressors and trigger can and will affect our pain.

Taking the steps to heal physical, mentally and emotionally are all part of the healing journey.

This is Neuroscience.

Understanding Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

After many injuries, surgeries, or fractures, the body usually moves through healing in about six to eight weeks. But with CRPS, the pain can continue beyond the expected healing window, grow more intense, and affect more than the original injury site.

This is not just a strain, sprain or injury. It is not normal recovery taking extra time. CRPS goes beyond that. It can involve the nerves, skin, muscles, joints, blood flow, immune response, and the nervous system’s fight-or-flight patterns.

For some people, CRPS begins after a clear injury or surgery. For others, the trigger is harder to identify. Experts are still studying why it happens, but it may involve abnormal nerve signaling, increased sensitivity in pain pathways, immune and inflammatory changes, and dysfunction in the sympathetic nervous system.

Sometimes, it can feel like a perfect storm: stress, a lowered immune response, an injury or procedure, and then the brain and body begin responding in a way that no longer protects the person. Instead, the pain loop keeps repeating.

There are two commonly recognized types.
Type one occurs without a confirmed nerve injury.
Type two occurs after a known nerve injury.
But no matter the type, the lived experience can be deeply disruptive.

Symptoms may include continuous burning pain, swelling, temperature changes, dramatic skin color changes, shiny or sweaty skin, stiffness, weakness, reduced range of motion, and extreme sensitivity to touch.

And CRPS does not stay neatly inside one body part. Over time, it can affect sleep, energy, mood, memory, focus, relationships, work, school, family life, and the ability to participate in ordinary moments.

To the outside world, someone may say, “I’m fine.”

But inside, the reality may be - I’m in pain. I’m exhausted. I’m angry. I’m scared. I’m overwhelmed. I’m isolated. I feel like no one understands what is happening to me.

That disconnect is one of the hardest parts of living with complex chronic pain. When pain is invisible, people are often forced to prove what they are already surviving.

At Holistic Centered Treatment in Meridian, Idaho, Dr. Traci Patterson brings both professional expertise and lived experience as a CRPS survivor to a customized, whole-body approach. The goal is not to dismiss the pain, but to understand the full system behind it: the nervous system, stress response, inflammation, movement, mindset, and the person’s daily life.

Their outpatient intensives are designed to support people with CRPS, chronic pain, and complex diagnoses as they work to interrupt the pain loop and move from merely surviving toward more possibility.

If you or someone you love is living with CRPS, you are not alone, and your pain deserves to be taken seriously.

Neuroplasticity: The Brain Pain Connection

Pain is Real. CRPS is Real.
The brain ultimately makes the decision if we feel pain.

Neuroplasticity doesn’t just build positive habits. It strengthens whatever the brain repeats most. This includes pain.

Neuroplasticity simply means the brain changes based on experience.

The more often we experience pain, a thought, a reaction, or a behavior - the easier it becomes for the brain to do it again. Our brain learns through repetition.

What’s easy to miss is that the brain doesn’t sort repetition into “helpful” or “unhelpful”.

It strengthens whatever happens most often.

Neuroscience sometimes refers to this as maladaptive neuroplasticity. The brain is adapting to repetition, but the adaption makes the pain worse.

Neuroplasticity exercises can retrain your brain to reduce chronic pain by creating new neural pathways that signal safety and calm instead of threat.

This is a piece to healing.

This is one family's journey and their 10-month update.

My 9-year-old son has been bedridden with extreme pain, headache, abdominal pain and nausea. He was admitted into the ER and had a full work up. Head CT, x-rays, EKG, upper GI endoscopy and abdomen ultrasound all came back normal. He went through testing for strep, many viruses and tick-borne diseases and all are negative. We’ve been in and out of the ER too many times to count.

Doctors were baffled because all tests and labs were inconclusive or norma. Then they were told it could be an ‘abdominal migraine’ or AMPS, but they weren’t sure.

When countless doctors had no solutions and gave up. Holistic Centered Treatment provided solutions.

We just received a 10-month update from his mom.

“Hello Dr. Traci!!! E… is completely well and doing amazing! We did have a curious even in June after a travel day coming home from vacation (and exactly one year after it all started). I immediately had him do his therapies and he was fully better within two days. He is strong, active and enjoying just being a kid! Thank you.”

Overcoming the obstacles.

I beat cancer twice and thought life would be a cakewalk.

Then an innocent injury led to my diagnosis of CRPS. I thought cancer was bad, but CRPS became the most overwhelming diagnosis.

Then a sprained ankle turned into CRPS. Hearing that I was diagnosed with a “rare incurable” diagnosis and that it was nick named the ‘suicide disease’, left me in a state of fear. How was this possible?

Diagnosed with CRPS in 2024. Traditional treatments (sympathetic blocks, PT, medications, Hyperbaric, scrambler, and acupuncture) failed. I was getting worse.

“Holistic Centered Treatment and Dr. Traci provide a relaxing experience that is wrapped in amazing treatment modalities. They exceeded my expectations - I left at a zero-pain level! I encourage you to contact Holistic Centered Treatment."

Holistic Centered Treatment takes a top-down approach, consistency, and the willingness to do the hard work. There isn’t a miracle cure, but there is a way forward.

Backed by over 11 years of experience treating CRPS and complex chronic pain.
