As an Asian American, two things can exist at the same time: we can deeply love and respect our culture while also being honest about the emotional pressure, silence, or trauma we’ve carried growing up in survival mode. You can appreciate your parents’ sacrifices and still admit that constantly being strong, obedient, or “fine” impacted your mental health in ways people didn’t always talk about. Healing starts when we normalize both truths instead of feeling guilty for having emotions that deserve space too.
