Versiti is proud to welcome Jorge Di Paola, MD, as executive vice president and chief scientific officer, effective Oct. 1.

Dr. Di Paola will lead the Versiti Blood Research Institute, helping shape the future of Versiti’s research in blood disorders, transfusion medicine, genomics, cellular therapies and translational science.

His appointment reflects Versiti’s continued commitment to advancing discoveries that improve patient care and strengthen the future of blood health.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Richard “Dick” Aster, M.D.

Dr. Aster helped shape the future of blood health research, transfusion medicine and patient care through more than six decades of scientific leadership and service.

He joined the Milwaukee Blood Center, now Versiti, in 1970 and helped build the foundation for what would become one of the nation’s leading blood health organizations and research institutes.

Beyond his many scientific contributions, Dr. Aster will be remembered by generations of colleagues and trainees for his humility, mentorship and belief that discovery should always remain grounded in service to people.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Sara “Patsy,” his family, friends and all who were fortunate to know and work alongside him.

A second chance, shared through community.

When Jennifer was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, blood and platelet transfusions helped keep her alive until a bone marrow stem cell donor match was found.
