When They Fall Apart After School

If your child walks through the door after school and suddenly becomes emotional, irritable, exhausted, withdrawn, or completely SILENT…

You’re not doing anything wrong. ❤️

It may be something called after-school restraint collapse.

All day, your child has been:

🧠 Listening and learning
🙋‍♀️ Answering questions
👫 Navigating friendships
📚 Following rules and expectations
🔊 Processing noise, stimulation, and new information
💪 Holding it together

And then they get home, the place where they feel safest, and their nervous system finally says, “I can let go now.”

So the tears come. The attitude comes. Or sometimes… nothing comes at all.

Kids are active, and we want them to be! They run, jump, climb, and take plenty of tumbles along the way. Sometimes little aches, strains, or movement issues can go unnoticed.
