Amy Lin, MD, Medical Director and Chris Hanna, Executive Director welcome Dr. Katherine Hu to the eye bank’s Medical Director leadership team!

Effective August 1st 2026, Dr. Hu will be joining Drs. Mark Mifflin and Majid Moshirfar as an Associate Medical Director for the Utah Lions Eye Bank – John A. Moran Eye Center.

Dr. Hu states, "My interest in eye banking began during residency, where I witnessed the life-changing impact of cornea transplantation. No other surgeries in our field offer the opportunity to physically remove a patient’s underlying disease and restore or improve vision using disease-free donor tissue."

During National Donate Life Month in April, we honor the individuals who have given the remarkable gift of life through organ, eye, and tissue donation. We also celebrate the countless lives saved and healed because of a donor’s selfless generosity.
This year’s theme highlights trees as a symbol of life, strength, and connection. Just as trees grow together and support one another in a forest, donation creates enduring connections between donors, recipients, and their families. And like a tree that stands strong for generations, a donor’s gift leaves a lasting legacy—one rooted in hope, renewal, and life.
