Exercise: Physical Activity May Help Protect Joints in People with Diabetes.
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and is characterized by the slow breakdown of the cartilage within joints, leading to swelling, stiffness, and pain that tends to worsen with time. A five-year study found that sedentary adults with diabetes developed osteoarthritis more often than physically active adults (38.9% vs. 29.6%) and were also more likely to experience joint pain (36.0% vs. 27.3%), highlighting another potential benefit of regular physical activity.
