2m0tiv8 Health & Wellness We are here to bridge the gap between medicine and fitness, empowering healthier decisions. Conventional medicine is considered evidence-based.

Conventional medicine is the mainstream approach to health through disease and symptom management. Functional medicine is an approach to care that focuses on finding and confronting root cause concerns. Furthermore, functional medicine works to restore normal bodily function. My approach is a blend of functional, conventional, and foundational care. While I can help you manage disease and symptoms, my desire is to teach you how to get healthier and empower you to make decisions that support better health through fitness, nutrition, and medicine.

Breast Health: PART 4
Could Your Family History Be Telling You Something? 💗

While most breast cancers are not inherited, certain family history patterns may suggest a hereditary cancer syndrome.

Consider discussing genetic counseling if you have:
✔️ Breast cancer diagnosed at a young age
✔️ Multiple relatives with breast cancer
✔️ Ovarian cancer in the family
✔️ Male breast cancer
✔️ Pancreatic cancer in close relatives
✔️ Multiple generations affected by cancer
✔️ A known BRCA or other cancer-related mutation in the family

Many people are surprised to learn that hereditary cancer risk can come from either the mother's or father's side of the family.

Your family history is one of the most powerful tools available for understanding your personal cancer risk.

Start the conversation. Ask questions. Share information with your loved ones.

Breast Cancer: PART 3
Not All Genetic Changes Are Created Equal

Many people confuse gene mutations with gene SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms).

Breast cancer genes such as BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2, CHEK2, and ATM often involve pathogenic mutations, which can substantially increase cancer risk.

On the other hand, SNPs are common genetic variations found throughout the population. Some SNPs may slightly influence factors such as:

✔️ Estrogen metabolism ✔️ Detoxification pathways ✔️ Inflammation ✔️ Oxidative stress ✔️ DNA repair efficiency

Individually, most SNPs have only a small effect. However, when combined with lifestyle factors and family history, they can help us better understand a person's overall health picture.

Your genes are not your destiny. While we cannot change our DNA, we can often influence how our genes are expressed through nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, and environmental choices.

🩷 Awareness leads to action. Action leads to prevention.

Breast Cancer Awareness: PART 2
Understanding the Genes Behind Risk

When people hear "breast cancer genes," they often think only of BRCA1 and BRCA2. While these are the most well-known, several genes can influence breast cancer risk.

Some important genes include:
🔹 BRCA1 & BRCA2 – associated with significantly increased hereditary breast and ovarian cancer risk
🔹 PALB2 – often called the "BRCA3" gene because of its close relationship with BRCA2
🔹 CHEK2 – involved in DNA repair and linked to moderate increases in breast cancer risk
🔹 ATM – helps repair damaged DNA and may increase risk when certain variants are present
🔹 TP53 – a tumor suppressor gene associated with higher lifetime cancer risk

(A little FYI: HER2 isn't a breast cancer risk gene like BRCA1 or BRCA2. Instead, HER2 helps doctors understand how a breast cancer behaves and which targeted treatments may be most effective. Thanks to HER2-targeted therapies, outcomes for HER2-positive breast cancer have improved dramatically. )

It's important to remember that carrying a genetic mutation does not guarantee cancer will develop. Genetics are only one piece of the puzzle. Lifestyle, environmental exposures, hormone balance, inflammation, and metabolic health all contribute to overall risk.

Knowledge empowers prevention. Understanding your family history and genetic risk factors can help guide appropriate screening and personalized healthcare decisions.

💗 Early detection saves lives.

Breast Health Education: PART 1

Genes vs SNPs: What's the Difference?

Have you ever looked at a genetic report and wondered what all those abbreviations mean?

🧬 Genes are instructions written in your DNA. They help determine how your body functions, including hormone production, detoxification, immune response, energy production, and more.

🧬 SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) are tiny variations in those genetic instructions. Think of a gene as a recipe and a SNP as a small spelling change in that recipe.

Having a SNP does not mean something is "wrong" with you. Most SNPs simply help explain why one person may respond differently to nutrients, stress, medications, or environmental exposures compared to another.

✨ Genetics load the gun, but lifestyle often pulls the trigger.

Understanding your genetic blueprint can help create a more personalized path toward optimal health.

🌎 World Mental Health Day 2026

Mental health affects every aspect of our lives, from our relationships and productivity to our physical health and overall well-being.

Today is an opportunity to raise awareness, foster understanding, and encourage individuals to seek support when needed. Small steps toward self-care and meaningful connections can make a significant difference.

Let's continue building a culture where mental health is prioritized and discussing it is met with compassion, not judgment. Today, we encourage everyone to check in with themselves and with those around them. A simple conversation, a moment of support, or an act of kindness can make a meaningful difference.

💚 Because mental health is health.

When was the last time you performed a self-breast exam?

Just a few minutes each month can help you become familiar with your breasts and identify changes that deserve attention. Most changes are not cancer, but knowing what is normal for your body is one of the most powerful tools you have.

Take time for yourself. Check. Feel. Know.
✅ New lumps or thickening
✅ Changes in breast size or shape
✅ Skin dimpling or redness
✅ Ni**le inversion or discharge

Early awareness can make a difference.

We encourage self exams and using a small tool that can help guide you regarding concerning lumps is beneficial. Consider acquiring detection dots, available at our office.

💕 Your health matters. Your awareness matters.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 💗

Did you know? Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States, and about 1 in 8 women (13%) will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.

The good news: thanks to increased awareness, screening, and improved treatments, breast cancer death rates have decreased significantly over the past several decades. Early detection remains one of our most powerful tools.

✅ Schedule your recommended imaging
✅ Perform regular breast self-awareness checks
✅ Encourage loved ones to stay current with screenings
✅ Support those affected by breast cancer

This month, let's honor survivors, remember those we've lost, and continue spreading awareness that can save lives. Early detection matters. 💕🎀
