Sometimes the first signs that an older adult needs more support are easy to overlook.

A missed medication. A near-fall. An uneaten meal. A forgotten appointment.

Individually, these moments may seem small. Together, they can tell us something important.

The 4Ms of Age-Friendly Care—What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility—help families look at the whole picture and recognize changes before they become a crisis.

ElderCARE provides professional care management, healthcare advocacy and planning, while ElderCARE at HOME evaluates safety, daily function, and the home environment.

Growing older doesn't have to mean giving up independence.

Most older adults want to remain in their own homes, stay connected to family and continue doing the things they love. The question is: How do we make that possible safely?

The answer often begins with the 4Ms of Age-Friendly Care:
💙 What Matters
💊 Medication
🧠 Mentation
🚶 Mobility

These four areas work together to help families understand the whole person—not just a diagnosis.

At ElderCARE, we help families navigate healthcare, coordinate services, and advocate for their loved ones. Through ElderCARE at HOME, our occupational therapists assess how the home itself can better support safety, independence, and quality of life.

The earlier families begin planning, the more options they have.

Read this week's blog to learn how the 4Ms can help older adults remain safe, independent and connected to what matters most.

What matters most to your loved one?

The answer isn't always medical.

For one person, it may be staying safely at home. For another, it may be attending church, spending time with family, or avoiding another hospital stay.

At ElderCARE, we believe good care begins by listening first.

When changes like missed medications, memory concerns, falls, decreased appetite, or reduced mobility begin to appear, they're often connected—not separate problems.

That's why we use the 4Ms of Age-Friendly Care:
💙 What Matters
💊 Medication
🧠 Mentation
🚶 Mobility

Together, ElderCARE and ElderCARE at HOME help families understand the whole picture, identify risks early, and create a plan that supports health, independence, and the person's goals.

You don't have to wait for a crisis to ask for help.

Learn how we can help your family navigate the journey.

When is it time to step in—and how do you know?

Watching someone you love struggle with memory, medications, finances, or decision-making can be one of the hardest parts of aging.

Many families don't realize there's an important difference between capacity and competency:

🩺 Capacity is a medical or clinical assessment of a person's ability to make decisions.
⚖️ Competency is a legal determination made by the courts.

Understanding that difference can help families know what steps to take next.

At ElderCARE, Edwina Minar and our team help families recognize concerns early, communicate with healthcare providers, and connect with the right evaluations and resources—always with compassion and respect for each person's dignity and independence.

Read our newest blog to learn more about recognizing the signs and navigating these important conversations.

Good care looks at the whole person—not just a diagnosis. 💙

The 4Ms of Age-Friendly Care focus on:

💙 What Matters
💊 Medication
🧠 Mentation
🚶 Mobility

While these principles are commonly used in healthcare settings, many aging concerns are first noticed at home.

That's why ElderCARE helps families use the 4Ms to organize healthcare, plan ahead, and respond to changes before they become crises. Through ElderCARE at HOME, our occupational therapy-led home safety assessments help families connect medical recommendations with the realities of everyday life.

When healthcare and home work together, older adults are better able to stay safe, independent, and engaged in the life they love.

Because age-friendly care shouldn't stop when someone leaves the doctor's office.

The caregiver sitting next to you at work may never tell you they're struggling.

Millions of employees are balancing careers while caring for aging parents, spouses, or loved ones—and most keep those responsibilities hidden.

When caregivers don't have support, everyone feels the impact:
💙 Increased stress
💙 Missed work
💙 Burnout
💙 Higher employee turnover

The good news? Small changes in workplace culture can make a big difference.

Creating an environment where employees feel safe asking for help—and connecting them with trusted local resources—helps both families and businesses thrive.

This week's blog explores why caregiving has become one of today's biggest workplace challenges and what employers can do to better support their teams.
