The Tennessee Nurses Association is proud to recognize May 2026 as American Stroke Month in Tennessee through the adoption of a formal resolution recognizing stroke awareness as a critical nursing call to action.

Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in the United States, and Tennessee nurses play a vital role in improving outcomes through education, prevention, early recognition, and rapid response.

During American Stroke Month, we encourage all Tennesseans to learn the BEFAST warning signs of stroke:

B – Balance difficulty
E – Eye changes in vision
F – Face drooping
A – Arm weakness
S – Speech difficulty
T – Time to call 911

Early recognition and rapid treatment can save lives and reduce long-term disability.

Thank you to our members and nursing professionals across Tennessee for the critical role you play every day in improving patient outcomes and strengthening public health.
