As the world gears up for the FIFA World Cup, I am reminded that success—whether on the field or in healthcare—is built on preparation.

Championship teams don't wait until game day to develop their strategy. They train, anticipate risks, and prepare for every possible scenario.

Infection Preventionists do the same.

While global travel and mass gatherings increase, we continue to monitor emerging infectious disease threats, including the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Central Africa. Our role is not simply to respond to events as they occur, but to ensure our healthcare systems are ready before challenges arise.

Every surveillance review, hand hygiene observation, staff education session, and preparedness drill strengthens our defense.

In a world where infectious diseases can cross borders quickly, preparedness remains our most valuable tool.

The work of Infection Preventionists may happen behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every day—in safer patients, protected healthcare workers, and stronger communities.

Preparedness isn't panic. It's professionalism.

Honored and deeply grateful.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of receiving the Nurse Leadership Excellence Award from the National Black Nurses Association – South Jersey Chapter. This recognition is incredibly meaningful, not just as a personal milestone, but as a reflection of the work, passion, and purpose that drives me every day.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to my Inspira Health nurse leadership team for nominating me. Your support, mentorship, and belief in my leadership mean more than words can express. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a team that is committed to excellence, equity, and advancing the nursing profession.

This award belongs to every nurse I’ve had the opportunity to learn from, lead alongside, and advocate for. It reinforces my commitment to continue fostering collaboration, building trust, and empowering nurses to lead with confidence and compassion.
