One of the quietest things parents carry is a private theory about who is to blame for their child having OCD.
The research does not support any of those explanations as the cause of OCD. OCD has neurological and genetic roots. It runs in families the way a lot of conditions do. It can be triggered or intensified by stress, transitions, illness, or life events. But no parent caused it. No single moment made it. No choice you made summoned it into your life.
We say this on a lot of first consultations because the shame around OCD is often heavier than the symptoms. Parents blame themselves for a child's diagnosis. Adults blame themselves for not catching it sooner. Family members quietly wonder what they did.
None of that is where the answer lives.
The answer is that OCD is treatable, whatever set it off. The More Than ERP framework at The OCD Treatment Center works with the version of OCD you are living inside right now. Not the origin story. The current pattern.
We treat OCD, anxiety, panic, phobias, and more. Children, teens, young adults, and adults.
