WOW, just like that 3️⃣ years have flown by since Kiwi Kids’s very first therapy session!

Birthday reflection:
🏠🛠️ The clinic quadrupled in size since day one, changing locations to 64 N 4th St
🧒👦 Over 100 different families have trusted me with their kiddos
🌱🌿 100s of motor goals have been mastered
✂️🫧 Pediatric Occupational therapy services are now offered, with 3 amazing OTs joining the team
📄 We are now in network with over 20 payers including Medicaid
🥼🩺 60 different referring physicians have found Kiwi Kids
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒📲 The Kiwi Family has grown and my cup continues to be full thanks to all of you who have given me your support in serving the community I LOVE 💚

My baby is fencing! 🤺

Ever see a little one in the fencing pose?

Fancy name for this is the Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex or ATNR

This reflex is totally normal and is an involuntary movement pattern that babies are born with. When a baby turns their head to the left for example, their left arm extends straight out and their right arm bends back toward the head.

This is typically integrated or disappears by 4 to 6 months as the baby’s brain matures.

A retained or absent ATNR reflex can often affect a child’s later motor skills.

This reflex is necessary in building muscle tone, stimulating the vestibular system, and serves as the foundation for reaching and hand-eye coordination.

The Side Sit.

A personal favorite when it comes to working the core and assessing symmetry in the hips AND a position needed for transitions (i.e sitting to/from crawling)

If WEAKNESS is present - you might see the child
👉Fling backwards
👉Avoid rotating when sitting
👉Stabilize with both hands on the floor

If TIGHTNESS is present - you might see the child
👉Extend one leg outward
👉Avoid trunk rotation when sitting
👉Fling backwards in sitting

If your little one is struggling to transition in and out of sitting or struggling pulling themselves to stand, try supporting them in SIDE SITTING play!

So many animal actions that help us strengthen and stretch our muscles and use our upper and lower extremities in a coordinated way!

My favorite animal action? The ones made up by the kids 💚

She’s originally from Buffalo, NY! Go Bills 💙🤍❤️
Julia is a vegetarian, so she doesn’t like wings, but she loves blue cheese and would drink it from a glass if she could!
Julia has a cat named WEEN 🐱
And she loves spending time with her family! She has several nieces and nephews who she adores. Julia truly enjoys being in the presence of kids which is why she chose to pursue pediatric occupational therapy!
