When you receive radiation treatment, one of the most important questions is also one of the simplest: How do we know the radiation is going exactly where it’s supposed to go?

Behind every treatment is an extensive process of testing and quality assurance. Medical physicists help make sure the treatment machine is working properly and that each patient's individual treatment plan has been carefully checked before radiation is delivered.

It’s one of the many parts of cancer care patients may never see, but it’s happening behind the scenes with one goal in mind: delivering treatment as safely and accurately as possible.

In this clip from The Cancer Project Podcast, Dr. Ali Fatemi, a medical physicist, explains what goes into making sure radiation treatment is ready before a patient ever steps into the treatment room.

Some friendships start in unexpected places. ❤️

Kevin, David and Randy first met at the Oklahoma Proton Center in 2024 while all three were receiving treatment. What began as a shared experience quickly turned into a lasting friendship.

Recently, David followed up with Kevin and learned that he had returned to the Proton Center for treatment. After finding out when Kevin’s final day would be, David reached out to Randy and the two made plans to surprise their friend.

Together again, the three friends put on the boxing gloves and posed for a special Proton Fight Club photo.

A reminder that sometimes the people you meet along the way become an important part of the journey.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about one of the most common cancers affecting men. When detected early, prostate cancer is highly treatable, making regular screenings and conversations with your doctor especially important.

A prostate cancer diagnosis can come with a lot of questions, especially when it comes to choosing the right treatment. Understanding all available options can help patients feel more informed and confident as they make decisions about their care.

For many men with prostate cancer, proton therapy may be an option. Proton therapy is an advanced form of radiation treatment that can precisely target the prostate while reducing unnecessary radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues and organs, including the bladder and re**um.

This September, we encourage men to learn about their risk, understand screening recommendations and take an active role in their health and, if diagnosed, to explore all of the treatment options available to them.

Every patient has a different story, but so many say the same thing about their time at the Oklahoma Proton Center: they felt cared for.

From the doctors and therapists to the staff they see along the way, our goal is to make patients feel comfortable, encouraged and supported through every step of treatment.

We’re thankful for the patients who trust us with their care and for the kind words they’ve shared along the way. 💙

Kristin’s cancer journey began when she was just 13 weeks pregnant, a time filled with fear and uncertainty.

Through it all, she found a care team willing to fight for her while protecting her baby. Today, baby Elijah Jude is four months old, and Kristin calls him their miracle. 💙

When radiation became the next step in her journey, Kristin admits she didn’t know what to expect from proton therapy. But from her very first appointment at the Oklahoma Proton Center, she felt something different.

We’re honored to be part of Kristin’s journey and grateful she trusted our team with her care.

We loved welcoming Oklahoma State Cowgirl Softball's Jayelle Austin to the Oklahoma Proton Center! 🥎🧡

Jayelle joined us for a patient orientation, toured the center, experienced what treatment setup is like, and got a behind-the-scenes look at how our team creates custom tools to precisely target each patient’s tumor while helping minimize exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

Thanks for spending the afternoon with us, Jayelle! We loved having you here and sharing more about the power of proton therapy. 💙 Oklahoma State Athletics
