❓Wondering why the belly fat won’t move?
🫀 Over half of adults in a major new study had heart disease building silently. No symptoms. Normal labs. No warning at all.
🔬 The green tissue in these scans is visceral fat. It sits deep, wrapped around your liver, pancreas, and intestines, and it’s associated with insulin resistance, inflammation, and cardiovascular risk. It doesn’t stop at the waistline either. Fat can accumulate directly on the heart itself, known as epicardial adipose tissue, and it’s increasingly linked to atrial fibrillation, coronary disease, and heart failure.
📊 A study presented at the European Society of Cardiology in 2026 scanned nearly 17,000 adults with no known heart disease. 57 percent already had detectable atherosclerosis. About 1 in 13 adults in their 20s already had it. By ages 60 to 70, it was present in roughly 9 out of 10 people.
⚠️ The most important finding may be this one. Standard risk calculators missed most of these cases, particularly in younger adults. Normal labs and a normal risk score do not guarantee a clean set of arteries.
💪 This is why I don’t program around weight loss or a single lab panel. I program around reducing visceral fat while preserving and building muscle, because that changes the trajectory this data is describing, not just the number on a scale.
