💉 GLP-1 MEDICATIONS: WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY DO?

You've probably heard a lot about medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide. They've become increasingly popular for weight management, but there's more to these medications than simply helping someone lose weight.

Let's talk about how they actually work. 👇

First, what is GLP-1?

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone your body naturally produces. It plays an important role in regulating blood sugar, appetite, and feelings of fullness.

Medications like semaglutide mimic the effects of this hormone, while tirzepatide acts on two hormone receptors, GLP-1 and GIP.

So, what can these medications do?

✔️ Help regulate appetite: They act on pathways involved in hunger and satiety, helping you feel satisfied with less food.
✔️ Slow gastric emptying: Food moves through the stomach more slowly, which can help you feel full longer.
✔️ Support blood sugar regulation: They help the body release insulin when blood sugar is elevated and reduce glucagon secretion.
✔️ Support weight reduction: For appropriate candidates, these medications can contribute to meaningful weight loss.

But here's something important to understand...

GLP-1 medications are not appropriate for everyone. Medical history, current medications, existing health conditions, and potential side effects all need to be considered.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Although less common, more serious complications, can occur, that's why proper medical evaluation, patient education, and ongoing clinical monitoring are so important.

At The Infusion Studio, our focus is on responsible medical care. We believe patients should understand what they're taking, why they're taking it, and the potential benefits and risks before beginning treatment.

Our goal isn't to put everyone on medication. It's to help determine whether medication is medically appropriate for the individual.

We're excited to share that The Infusion Studio is expanding our services to include medically supervised GLP-1–based treatment options, including semaglutide and tirzepatide.

But before introducing this service, we want you to understand our approach.

This isn't about simply getting "skinny." It's about making informed, medically appropriate decisions regarding your health.

We recognize that weight and metabolic health are complex. There are many factors that can influence weight, and what may be appropriate for one person may not be appropriate for another.

We've taken the time to research these medications, evaluate our pharmacy options, and establish appropriate medical protocols. We are also pleased to work with a local pharmacy.

Not everyone is a candidate for GLP-1 medications, and that's important to us.

Our process focuses on:
✔️ Reviewing your medical history and current health status
✔️ Determining medical eligibility through an appropriate evaluation
✔️ Educating patients on the medications, potential benefits, risks, and side effects
✔️ Providing appropriate medication administration instructions
✔️ Monitoring medication response, tolerance, and safety

These medications are not a quick fix, nor are they something we believe should be prescribed without careful consideration.

Our priority is patient safety, education, and responsible medical care — not simply a number on the scale.

At The Infusion Studio, we believe in taking the time to understand the individual, asking the right questions, and recognizing when a treatment may or may not be appropriate.
