FCC Week 2026 Clinic Spotlight: Waukesha Free Clinic

“Waukesha Free Clinic has broken its records on several patient metrics in the past year. We saw 547 unique patients, 258 new patients, and had 3,492 patient encounters in the 2025 calendar year. This record year is set to be broken again this year due to the only Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Waukesha County no longer seeing medical patients in-person. Despite some weather hazards and physician shortages, in the first quarter of 2026, we saw 269 unique patients, 70 new patients, and had over 800 patient encounters. We also have a current average wait time before being seen of about 2 weeks for primary care clinics with some specialty clinics booking out as far as 2 months showing just how great the need is in Waukesha County. FCC Week 2026 Clinic Spotlight: Specialty Care Free Clinic

"Specialty Care Free Clinic is delighted to be celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2026! The clinic was started by 3 local physicians who noted tremendous health disparities between their patients who had health insurance and those who did not. The uninsured patients’ illnesses were more advanced and their outcomes were poorer, because they had waited such a long time to seek care. They decided to take action by founding the BSP Free Clinic, now known as Specialty Care Free Clinic.

Our mission says it all: Medical volunteers providing free specialty health care to uninsured patients in south-central Wisconsin. The clinical care is driven by more than 60 volunteer specialty physicians and other medical professionals in areas such as cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, gynecology, psychiatry, urology, orthopedics, rheumatology, and 15 more.

Our patients are referred by more than 20 primary care clinics, when they determine the complexity of illness requires a specialist’s expertise. Clinic appointment volumes have risen more than 41% over the past 5 years, and in 2025 we provided 1,623 visits. During the first quarter this year we have seen more patients than in any quarter on record! It is widely anticipated that demand for services will only rise, and we are actively recruiting additional specialists in preparation.

Patient satisfaction results from 2025 indicated 100% of patients surveyed felt that the care they received from Specialty Care Free Clinic would help them return to their normal activities or to work. 100% also indicated the care they received made them feel healthier and happier, and for us it simply doesn’t get any better than that!"

Thank you, Specialty Care Free Clinic for all your amazing work!

FCC Week 2026 Clinic Spotlight: More Smiles Dental Clinic

"We are excited to share highlights from More Smiles Wisconsin’s Behavioral Health Program as we continue expanding access to integrated care in our community.

Over the past year, More Smiles Wisconsin has continued to grow its integrated care model by formally launching outpatient behavioral health services alongside dental care. This expansion has allowed us to address the strong connection between oral health, mental health, and overall well-being, particularly for underserved populations.

Since launching the program, we have established foundational workflows including intake, screening, and referral pathways, while building partnerships with community organizations and schools to increase access to services. We have also begun providing individual therapy services focused on anxiety, depression, trauma, and life stressors, with an emphasis on trauma-informed and client-centered care.

In addition, we have received increasing interest from community members, with a growing number of referrals and completed interest forms, demonstrating a clear need for accessible behavioral health services within our patient population.

We are proud to be building a program that prioritizes accessibility, early intervention, and whole-person care, and we are grateful to WAFCC for the continued support and partnership in this work."

Thank you, More Smiles for all your amazing work!

FCC Week 2026 Clinic Spotlight: Madison Street Medicine

“Last year, Madison Street Medicine (MSM) concluded our 3rd Community Health Needs Assessment survey, which captured the lived experience of 265 individuals and will guide future programming initiatives in the coming years.

In 2026 we are placing an even stronger emphasis on integrating our Healthcare and Outreach teams by increasing prescriber presence on the streets and bringing Case Managers into our Healthcare Circle meetings.

We are also working with prescribers, city and county officials, and other non-profits to strengthen and formalize standards of communication between MSM and area hospitals in hopes of reducing the number of patient discharges into homelessness. MSM is committed to building on these efforts to provide lasting stability for our most vulnerable neighbors.”

FCC Week 2026 Clinic Spotlight: Lake Area Free Clinic (LAFC)

LAFC Celebrates its 25th Anniversary! Since 2001, Lake Area Free Clinic (LAFC) in Oconomowoc, has been providing high-quality healthcare to low-income residents of Waukesha County. LAFC is the medical home for patients who receive healthcare services, medication, labs and imaging free of charge. Transportation and insurance enrollment assistance are also available. To improve the overall health of patients, in 2017, LAFC opened a six-chair reduced-fee dental clinic. In 2019 with a three-month long, wait list, a seventh chair was added. Since 2017, the Dental Clinic has had over 40,000 patient visits.
"From our humble beginnings, we have grown to be the medical and dental home for thousands of low-income residents in Waukesha County. In 2024, LAFC had our 100,000th patient visit (medical and dental combined). In 2026 we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. This significant milestone has been made possible because of the generous support from the community, the dedication and hard work of our staff, and our amazing volunteers – who have given more than 168,000 hours in total over the past 25 years!"

Thank you, Lake Area Free Clinic for all your amazing work!

FCC Week 2026 Clinic Spotlight: Community Smiles

In 2025, Community Smiles Dental experienced a record-breaking year, serving 4,861 unique patients - the highest number in our organization’s history. We also expanded our reach, welcoming patients from a record 17 counties across the region, underscoring the growing need for accessible dental care. To meet this demand, we are actively expanding our footprint and will open our third clinic, and first location in the city of Milwaukee, in 2027.

“As we continue to see more patients from across southeastern Wisconsin, it’s clear that access to dental care remains a critical need,” said CEO Scott Marshall. “Opening a clinic in Milwaukee is an important next step in ensuring more individuals and families have a place to call their dental home.”

“🎉 Celebrating 17 Years of Service! 🦷

This year marks 17 years of making a difference in the lives of our patients. We are proud to continue serving our community with compassionate, high-quality dental care.

Our Mission
