One of my favorite parts of being a dietitian is seeing someone go from feeling overwhelmed and unsure about food to feeling confident in their choices.

This review means so much to me, especially because it speaks to what I believe nutrition counseling should be: supportive, realistic, personalized, and never (bolded! italicized! all the emphasis!) judgmental.

Postpartum nutrition can come with so many competing priorities, and you shouldn’t have to choose between nourishing yourself, enjoying food, breastfeeding, and feeling good in your body.

There’s no one-size-fits-all diet here. We work together to find changes that actually fit your life, your preferences, and your goals.

Thank you to this client for trusting me with such an important part of her journey. 🫶

If you’re looking for nutrition support that doesn’t involve restriction or starting over every Monday, I’d love to help. Visit the link in my bio to check your insurance coverage today.

The craziest part about all of it, is that when I graduated from undergrad in 2018... I didn't even think I was going to pursue being an RD.

Boy would that have been a mistake!

Grateful for everything I've been able to accomplish, and everything left in store. Cheers to the next 5 years (& so many more)! 🥂

A question I get alllllllll the time: "I can eat chocolate?"

Um, I sure do! Life is all about balance. If we don't incorporate the things we love, we lose sight of what really matters - our happiness.

The day I snapped this pic in particular I had a LONG day of work. I got takeout for dinner but I was still wanting something sweet to tie up the night. Could I have scolded myself for being "bad" already and avoided sweets all together? Yes. Could I have said "eh, I already 'ruined' my day, might as well keep going" and run out for ice cream? Also yes.

Instead, I decided I would enjoy my chocolate with a size of fiber and healthy fats - not guilt. And you know what.......... it could have also just been chocolate if that's what I ultimately wanted.

If you're a sweet treat girl who's had a nighttime war before, I get it. But it doesn't have to be all or nothing. We can meet in the middle, too.

When we only define success by the number on the scale, we miss so many meaningful wins.

Success can look like...

Having more energy throughout the day.
Feeling confident grocery shopping.
Cooking more meals at home.
Improving your cholesterol or blood sugar.
Eating without guilt.
Enjoying meals with family instead of stressing about them.
Feeling stronger.
Learning to trust your body again.

These are the kinds of victories that often have the biggest impact on your long-term health. They deserve to be celebrated.

Health is about so much more than weight.

What's a non-scale win you've experienced recently? I'd love to celebrate it with you in the comments!

My approach to nutrition isn't about perfection.

❌ It's not about cutting out entire food groups.
❌ It's not about following rigid meal plans.
❌ It's not about earning your food through exercise.
❌ It's not about guilt or shame.
❌ It's not about chasing the next fad diet.

Instead...

✔ It's about building habits that fit your real life.
✔ It's about learning how to nourish your body without fear.
✔ It's about enjoying food while supporting your health.
✔ It's about making small, realistic changes that add up over time.
✔ It's about finding an approach that's sustainable, not just for a few weeks, but for years to come.

Because healthy eating shouldn't feel like a punishment.

If you've ever felt overwhelmed by nutrition advice, know that you're not alone, and there is another way.

Before you head to Google or AI to consult for your next diet change, let's discusses something important: Nutrition is different for everyone, and there is no magic bullet (I know, I know).

Most people know what they are supposed to be doing - more fruits and veggies, more fiber, getting enough protein - but they don't know how to make it a reality in their day to day.

Instead of starting again on Monday, why not check your insurance coverage to see if you can work directly with a dietitian? Over 90% of people end up paying $0 out of pocket!

There is nothing you need to do today to "work off" what you enjoyed at the BBQ yesterday.

One meal, one dessert, or one holiday doesn't undo your health... just like one salad doesn't create it.

Instead of punishing yourself with extra exercise or skipping meals, get back to your usual routine:

- Eat balanced meals.
- Stay hydrated.
- Move your body because it feels good (not because you have to earn your food).
- Let go of the guilt.

Food is meant to be enjoyed, especially when it's shared with the people you love.

Your worth isn't measured by what you ate yesterday, and your body doesn't need punishment for celebrating.

A student once said something to me that I've never forgotten: "You can't be what you can't see."

In a profession where the vast majority of dietitians are white, representation matters.

As a dietitian who is Black, Native American, and white, I know firsthand how meaningful it can be for someone to see a provider, educator, or mentor who reflects part of their own story.

Representation isn't about checking a box. It's about expanding possibilities. It's about helping future healthcare professionals see that they belong in these spaces. It's about helping clients feel seen, heard, and understood.

Every time a student, intern, or client tells me they're excited to meet a dietitian who looks like them, I'm reminded that visibility matters.

You can't be what you can't see. So let's keep showing up. 🖤
