As a physician, I see firsthand how sleep, nutrition, movement, stress and recovery can influence our health. We call them “the basics,” but they can have a profound impact on how we feel, function and age.

That’s why I’m excited to be part of The Capacity Collective Experience, October 23–24 at Oglebay.

I’ll be joining physicians and other experts for a different kind of conversation about women’s health—what we’re seeing, what we wish women knew sooner, and what we can begin doing now.

I’ll also be sharing my perspective from the world of genomics and what our genes—and the way we live—can tell us about our health.

I hope you’ll join us.

A vitamin D–rich diet or daily multivitamin may not be enough for everyone. Certain genetic variants can affect how your body produces vitamin D in the skin, transports it through the bloodstream, or enables it to bind to its cellular receptor—potentially reducing its effectiveness.

Understanding your genomics can help identify whether you may be genetically predisposed to vitamin D–related challenges and whether a more personalized approach may be appropriate.

Some tips on how to prevent doomscrolling.

Doomscrolling is the habit of endlessly scrolling through upsetting or negative content online — even when it makes you feel worse. It often happens on social media or news apps, where one alarming post after another keeps you hooked. Biologically, doomscrolling feeds your brain a continual stream of cortisol, also known as the stress hormone. Over time, this barrage of negativity can take a toll on your mental and physical health.

Doomscrolling epidemic is real. It is taking away from both young and old. It’s time to pay attention and protect your physical health, mental health and productivity.

Your biology and behavior matter when it comes to guilty pleasures. If your cravings are excessive, it may be in your genes. Some genomics assessments can show you if you are at risk.
