My long runs are looking quite different these days as I prepare for my first ever Spartan race next month. This morningā€™s 13 mile trail run had two goals:

1. Do 8 burpees every mile
2. Run through every body of water (puddle or creek) encountered to get as wet and muddy as possible

Mission accomplished. My only regret is that the toy horse I found on trail was too small for me to ride. šŸ“

Chased second place for almost 5 miles.
Waited. Stayed patient.
Then attacked on the final Ā¾ mile, an 8% uphill the whole way.

Passed her in the last minute to take 2nd overall female and 1st in my age group. Top 6% of 348 runners.

A few years ago, I never wouldā€™ve believed Iā€™d be running these kinds of paces. Turns out consistency and hard training has a way of changing the math.

Strong legs. Calm head. Mandatory pancakes.
