Bauman’s C***r Company (Bauman's C***r) owner and head c***rmaker Christine Walter had a simple problem: she'd run out of room. After eight years of producing c***r on the farm in Woodburn, Bauman's needed more space. What she found in Portland’s Central Eastside, though, was more than just square footage. "The production space here was everything we needed," Christine says. "It was incredibly perfect and all the infrastructure was here."

Since opening their doors in 2024, Bauman’s C***r has become a fixture in both the neighborhood and the food & beverage community, drawing visitors from all over the state and working closely with Prosper Portland and Central Eastside Together. Prosper Portland has provided them with technical assistance and grant application support.

Roux (), Portland's annual celebration of food, drink, and culture returns this weekend!

Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11, join local experts and visiting chefs for a citywide celebration of food-centric experiences with women at the helm, featuring dinners, brunches, parties, and panel discussions all weekend long.

Prosper Portland’s Office of Events & Film and Business Advancement Team are proud to support and celebrate this Portland tradition.

Roux is a recipient of the Scale Up Grant from the Office of Events & Film (), which provides funding and technical assistance for local Portland events positioned to grow and attract attendance beyond the Portland metro region.

The Business Advancement Team’s Food & Beverage Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) program also partners with Roux and Xcelerate Women () to host the festival’s annual Secret Sauce Panel. Taking place Sunday, October 11 from 3-6 pm, the panel brings together Portland food and beverage leaders for a candid conversation about building businesses, creating community, and knowing when (and how) to grow.⁠ ⁠ This year’s conversation is all about placemaking, from cafés and shops to cities and regions, and the role physical spaces, people, and ideas play in helping a business and a community thrive.

On Thursday, Mayor Keith Wilson joined members of the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC) for the Bikes Mean Business ride. The Mayor and BAC members rode from City Hall to Northeast Broadway, where participants got to see improvements from the 2025 NE Broadway Pave & Paint project, which included wider, buffered bike lanes on NE Broadway & NE Weidler, concrete protections at key intersections along with other safety improvements, and nine new pedestrian crossings. At the end of the ride, riders joined Prosper Portland’s Office of Small Business to gather and support local businesses along NE Broadway, including Aztec’s on Broadway, Eb & Bean, Bluefin Tuna and Sushi, Milo’s City Cafe, Taste Tickler, and Keia & Martyn’s Cuppa.

As the ODOT closure of I-5 Southbound enters its final weeks, remember to continue to Shift Your Trip, use alternate transportation, and show some extra support for small businesses in impacted traffic corridors, especially around The Rose Quarter/Lloyd neighborhood, along MLK Jr. Blvd., on Swan Island, and at Jantzen Beach/Hayden Island.

From heavy equipment to packaged foods, Portland is a town for makers and manufacturers. One of Portland’s fastest-growing manufacturing sectors is food and beverage consumer packaged goods, which employs more than 35,000 workers in the Portland area.

The industry’s culture of innovation and excellence is perhaps best exemplified in local icon Smith Teamaker (). Started in 2009 by local entrepreneur Steven Smith, founder of Stash Tea and cofounder of Tazo Tea, the local brand has grown from an artisan shop in Northwest Portland into one of the most recognizable names in teamaking, employing 110 employees locally. Their products can be found in stores, restaurants, and hotels across the globe, including Olympia Provisions, Nordstroms, New Seasons Market, Whole Foods, and Costco.

Prosper Portland and the Portland Housing Bureau (PHB) are recruiting applicants to serve on the Community Leadership Committee (CLC) for the Cully Tax Increment Finance (TIF) district. The CLC advises PHB and Prosper Portland staff, the Portland City Council, and the Prosper Portland Board of Commissioners by providing essential guidance, public recommendations, and oversight of the City’s development and implementation of the Cully TIF District 5-Year Action Plan.

The Cully TIF District 5-Year Action Plan, adopted by City Council in April 2026, was developed through a co-creation process between the CLC and the City. The plan guides the investment of approximately $31 million to affordable housing and economic development programs in alignment with the plan’s anti-displacement and stabilization goals.

The I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project starts this Friday. I-5 Southbound will be closed between I-405 and I-84 for approximately five weeks, starting Friday, September 11.
With traffic impacts expected throughout North and Northeast Portland and beyond, Executive Director Cornell Wesley has an important reminder to plan ahead, “Shift Your Trip,” and continue to support local small businesses, many of whom may be impacted by this closure.

And while traffic may be affected on the freeway, there’s no shortage of ways to get out and enjoy everything our city has to offer this month, including Portland Staycation (Portland Staycation), Downtown Sunday Parkways, and the Soul District's annual MLK Dream Run.

Last week, Mayor Keith Wilson was joined by Senator Ron Wyden, Senator Jeff Merkley, State Representative Rob Nosse, Prosper Portland Executive Director Cornell Wesley, and staff from Prosper Portland’s Business Advancement Team to celebrate the grand opening of OpConnect's new facility in Southeast Portland.

This expansion is a major milestone for the company as they scale local manufacturing for electric fast chargers, adding 45 new jobs over the next five years. OpConnect’s charging infrastructure is already in place supporting critical local fleets at the City of Portland, Multnomah County, Beaverton School District, and Portland General Electric. The company’s growth directly drives Portland's climate goals and our city's transition toward net-zero carbon operations by 2050.

Prosper Portland has partnered with OpConnect for more than a decade, supporting their journey from a local startup into a vital pillar of our green economy through strategic financing—including a $2 million business loan and a $100,000 forgivable job-creation loan—alongside workforce grants, investor connections, and participation in Portland Means Progress.
