This Tuesday, Mayor Wilson joined staff from the Portland of Portland (), Business Oregon (), and Prosper Portland’s Business Advancement Team to celebrate the groundbreaking of Alaska Airlines’ new maintenance hangar at Portland International Airport. Located adjacent to the airline’s existing Horizon Air Ops Center & Maintenance Hangar, the $135 million facility will add approximately 125,000 square feet of space for indoor aircraft maintenance of Alaska Airlines () and Hawaiian Airlines’ mainline fleets and at least 100 new living wage jobs for maintenance workers, engineers, and service professionals.

This annual celebration features food trucks and vendors, live music, magical performers, and other free activities. Throughout the summer, we’ll be continuing our tour of the many amazing business associations, business districts, and commercial corridors that help make the City of Portland a great place to shop small and support local businesses. Prosper Portland Project Manager Amy Fleck-Rosete recently visited with Chris Correnti, president of the Foster Area Business Association (), to talk about the small business community along Foster Road and two upcoming events in the district.

The fourth annual Foster Summer Soiree takes place this Saturday, June 13 from noon to 6 pm, and will feature vendors, food carts, and live music performances in Laurelwood Park. The following week, 's Punk Rock Pride will take place on Saturday, June 20 with music, comedy, and art at venues throughout the neighborhood.

Mark your calendars and remember to support the small businesses in Foster and throughout Portland not just in June, but all year long!

May and June are two of Portland’s busiest months. This week, we’re highlighting just a few moments spent in community with the businesses and community partners that help make Portland great.

Slide 1: Green Cities Business Liaison Katherine Juengel (pictured, right) joined Economic Development Director Andrew Fitzpatrick (left) and Director of Equity, Policy and Communications Chabre Vickers (center) at a celebration for University of Oregon’s new Oregon Acoustic Research Laboratory (OARL) at Port of Portland’s Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus (MTHIC). Once completed, this state-of-the-art facility will be an integral part of MTHIC’s campus vision.

Slide 2: Executive Director Cornell Wesley met with the Columbia Corridor Association (CCA) and Swan Island Business Association and sat down with Executive Director Corky Collier (pictured, left) for a moderated discussion on investment priorities and economic opportunities for the city’s industrial corridors.
