Your glute med's main job is keeping your pelvis level when you're on one leg. That's every step you take, whether you're walking, running, or climbing stairs.
So I like to train it where it actually has to work. Here are my go-tos: side bridge, side bridge with movement, and DB reverse lunge.
Give them a try and see how your hips feel afterward.
Comment “move” if you’re sick of endless clamshells and want to upgrade your rehab.
