Motherhood exists in so many forms, and not all of them are visible.
For some, Mother’s Day is filled with laughter, sticky hands, noise, and movement.
For others, it carries longing, grief, silence, exhaustion, healing, or complicated emotions that are hard to explain.
Today I’m thinking about the women trying to conceive and carrying hope month after month.
The mothers who have lost children and somehow continue moving through the world while carrying a love that never left.
The women navigating miscarriage, infertility, or pregnancies that changed them forever.
The mothers deep in the sleepless years of caregiving.
The women learning how motherhood changes again as children grow older and need them differently.
The mothers whose children have become adults.
The grandmothers.
The stepmothers.
The women who mother others simply through their presence, care, protection, and kindness.
And the women grieving the loss of their own mothers while trying to navigate this day with tenderness and strength.
There is no single way to experience motherhood.
And yet, despite all its different forms, there is something deeply beautiful about motherhood — the way women continue to love, nurture, protect, adapt, soften, and keep showing up even through seasons that change them completely. There is beauty in the resilience, in the tenderness, in the quiet sacrifices no one sees, and in the love that continues to exist even through grief and change.
Motherhood stretches us. Softens us. Breaks us open. Changes our identities over and over again through every age and stage of life.
I think many women are carrying more than the world realizes.
So today, I hope we move a little more gently with one another.
I hope we remember that every woman may be standing inside a story we cannot see.
And I hope every mother — and every woman longing, grieving, nurturing, adapting, surviving, or loving deeply — feels seen in some way today. 🤍
Happy Mother’s Day.
