๐Ÿ›๏ธ Can My Pillow Cause Neck Pain?

Do you regularly wake up with a stiff, sore, or difficult-to-move neck? Your pillow could be one contributing factor.

A pillowโ€™s main purpose is to support your head and help keep your neck aligned with the rest of your spine. If your pillow is too high, too low, too firm, or too soft for your sleeping position, your neck may remain bent or twisted for several hours. This may strain the surrounding muscles and joints, leading to morning discomfort.

Signs your pillow may not be supporting your neck properly include:

๐Ÿ”น Neck stiffness after waking up
๐Ÿ”น Pain that improves after you begin moving
๐Ÿ”น Tightness across the neck and shoulders
๐Ÿ”น Difficulty turning your head in the morning
๐Ÿ”น Headaches that begin near the base of the skull
๐Ÿ”น Frequently folding or stacking your pillow for support

Your ideal pillow depends partly on how you sleep:

โœ… Side Sleepers: Choose a pillow that fills the space between your shoulder and head without tilting your neck upward or downward.

โœ… Back Sleepers: Use a pillow that supports the natural curve of your neck without pushing your head too far forward.

โœ… Stomach Sleepers: This position may keep the neck rotated for long periods. A thinner pillow may reduce strain, but changing your sleep position could also help.

There is no single pillow that works for everyone. Body size, shoulder width, mattress firmness, existing spinal conditions, and sleep position can all affect the amount of support you need.

A new pillow may help when poor support is contributing to the problem, but persistent neck pain should not automatically be blamed on your pillow. Arthritis, muscle strain, a pinched nerve, disc problems, an injury, or another medical condition may also cause neck pain.

Contact a healthcare professional if your pain is severe, continues for several days, spreads into your shoulder or arm, or occurs with numbness, tingling, or weakness.

Donโ€™t let recurring neck pain disturb your sleep and affect your day. Contact Premier Pain Centers for a professional evaluation and appropriate treatment options.

Does Poor Posture Cause Chronic Back Pain?

Poor posture may not be the only cause of chronic back pain, but it can contribute to discomfortโ€”especially when you remain in the same position for long periods.

Slouching at a desk, leaning forward toward a screen, or sitting without proper lower-back support may place additional strain on the muscles, ligaments, and joints that support your spine. Over time, these habits may contribute to:

๐Ÿ”น Muscle tension and fatigue
๐Ÿ”น Lower-back stiffness
๐Ÿ”น Reduced spinal mobility
๐Ÿ”น Pain after prolonged sitting
๐Ÿ”น Neck and shoulder discomfort
๐Ÿ”น Increased discomfort during daily activities

Small changes to your workspace and routine may help reduce unnecessary strain:

โœ… Keep both feet flat on the floor
โœ… Support the natural curve of your lower back
โœ… Position your screen close to eye level
โœ… Keep your shoulders relaxed
โœ… Avoid remaining in one position for too long
โœ… Take regular movement and stretching breaks
โœ… Use a chair that provides proper support

Remember, there is no single โ€œperfectโ€ posture that must be maintained all day. Changing positions, staying active, and using a comfortable workstation are also important.

If your back pain continues, becomes severe, travels into your legs, or is accompanied by numbness or weakness, it may be time for a professional evaluation. An accurate diagnosis can help determine whether your symptoms are related to muscle strain, nerve irritation, disc problems, arthritis, or another condition.

Donโ€™t let persistent back pain interfere with your daily life. Contact Premier Pain Centers to discuss your symptoms and available pain management options.

๐Ÿง  Racing Thoughts: Common Signs and Triggers

Does your mind keep jumping from one thought to anotherโ€”even when you are trying to relax or sleep?

Racing thoughts can feel like several ideas, worries, memories, and โ€œwhat ifโ€ questions arriving all at once. You may feel mentally exhausted, yet unable to slow your mind down.

Common signs may include:

๐Ÿ”น Thoughts that move quickly or feel difficult to control
๐Ÿ”น Trouble concentrating on one task or conversation
๐Ÿ”น Replaying past situations repeatedly
๐Ÿ”น Constantly anticipating possible problems
๐Ÿ”น Difficulty relaxing or falling asleep
๐Ÿ”น Feeling restless, tense, overwhelmed, or irritable

Possible triggers may include:

โšก Ongoing stress or emotional pressure
โšก Anxiety and excessive worrying
โšก Lack of sleep or an irregular sleep routine
โšก Major life changes or relationship concerns
โšก Work, financial, family, or health-related worries
โšก Too much caffeine or other stimulants

Racing thoughts are not a diagnosis by themselves. However, if they occur frequently, affect your sleep, interrupt your daily routine, or make it difficult to focus, speaking with a qualified mental-health professional may help identify what is contributing to them.

Try pausing, taking slow breaths, reducing stimulation, writing down your thoughts, and maintaining a regular sleep schedule. Most importantly, remember that you do not have to manage an overwhelmed mind alone.

๐Ÿ’› Pause. Breathe. Support is available.

Schedule an appointment with Premier Psychiatry to discuss your symptoms and available care options.

Why Does My Lower Back Hurt When I Wake Up?

Waking up with lower back pain can be more than just an uncomfortable start to your morning. If you regularly experience stiffness, soreness, or aching in your lower back after waking up, it may be a sign that something needs attention.

There can be several reasons behind morning lower back pain. Your sleeping position can put unnecessary pressure on your spine, while staying in one position for several hours may cause muscles and joints to become stiff. Muscle or joint strain, poor posture, physical activity, and certain spinal conditions can also contribute to recurring discomfort.

Sometimes, the pain may improve after you get up and start moving. However, if the discomfort keeps coming back, lasts throughout the day, becomes more intense, or starts affecting your normal activities, itโ€™s important not to simply ignore it.

A professional evaluation can help determine what may be contributing to your pain and whether you could benefit from conservative care, targeted pain management, or other appropriate treatment options.

At Premier Pain Centers, our goal is to help patients better understand their pain and explore personalized treatment options designed around their individual needs.

๐ŸŒ™ DOES LACK OF SLEEP AFFECT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH?

The answer is yes. Sleep is not only about physical restโ€”it also helps your brain regulate emotions, process information, manage stress, and maintain focus.

When you consistently do not get enough quality sleep, you may experience:

๐Ÿ”น Mood Changes: You may feel more irritable, frustrated, emotional, or overwhelmed.

๐Ÿ”น Increased Anxiety: Poor sleep may make everyday stress feel harder to manage and may worsen anxious thoughts.

๐Ÿ”น Poor Focus: Sleep loss can affect concentration, memory, decision-making, and productivity.

๐Ÿ”น Low Energy: Ongoing tiredness may reduce your motivation and make normal daily responsibilities feel exhausting.

๐Ÿ”น Emotional Distress: Frequent sleep difficulties may be associated with increased mental distress and depressive symptoms.

One restless night does not necessarily indicate a mental health condition. However, if you regularly struggle to fall asleep, wake up frequently, feel exhausted during the day, or notice changes in your mood and behavior, it may be time to seek professional support.

A consistent sleep schedule, a relaxing bedtime routine, reduced screen time before bed, and limiting late-day caffeine may help. If the problem continues, speak with a qualified healthcare professional.

At Premier Psychiatry, we are here to listen, understand your concerns, and help you take positive steps toward better emotional well-being.

Is It Arthritis or Normal Aging? ๐Ÿค”

Many people assume that joint pain, stiffness, or difficulty moving is simply part of getting older. But when pain starts interfering with your daily routine, it may be time to look deeper.

Arthritis can affect the hands, knees, hips, shoulders, spine, and other joints. Symptoms may develop gradually and can make even simple activities feel difficultโ€”such as walking, climbing stairs, getting dressed, opening a bottle, or sleeping comfortably.

Watch for common signs like:

โœ… Morning stiffness that does not go away quickly
โœ… Joint swelling, tenderness, or warmth
โœ… Pain during walking, bending, gripping, or climbing stairs
โœ… Reduced range of motion or flexibility
โœ… Recurring pain that affects work, sleep, or daily activities

You do not have to ignore pain or assume it is โ€œjust aging.โ€ Getting the right evaluation can help identify the source of your discomfort and explore appropriate pain-management options.

At Premier Pain Centers, we listen to your concerns and work with you to help you move more comfortably and live with less pain.

Depression is more than simply feeling sad for a day or two.

It can affect how you think, sleep, work, connect with others, and handle everyday life. Many people try to push through quietly, but emotional health deserves the same care and attention as physical health.

Some common signs of depression may include:

โ€ข Persistent sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness
โ€ข Losing interest in activities you once enjoyed
โ€ข Changes in sleep or appetite
โ€ข Low energy or feeling tired most of the time
โ€ข Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
โ€ข Feeling withdrawn, irritable, or overwhelmed
โ€ข Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or isolation

Having one of these signs does not automatically mean someone has depression. However, if these feelings continue, affect daily life, or feel difficult to manage, reaching out for professional support can be an important next step.

You do not have to carry it alone. At Premier Psychiatry, compassionate mental health support is available to help you move forward with care and understanding.

๐Ÿ”ด LIVING WITH CHRONIC PAIN CAN AFFECT EVERY PART OF YOUR LIFE.
When back or nerve pain continues despite other treatments, spinal cord stimulation (SCS) may be an option worth discussing with a qualified pain specialist.

What is Spinal Cord Stimulation?
Spinal cord stimulation is an advanced pain-management treatment that uses carefully controlled electrical stimulation to influence pain signals before they reach the brain.

โœ… Targets chronic pain
Designed for certain types of persistent nerve and spine-related pain.

โœ… Adjustable stimulation
Stimulation settings can be personalized and adjusted based on your needs and treatment response.

โœ… Minimally invasive approach
SCS is delivered through an implanted system using specialized leads and a small pulse generator.

โœ… May help improve daily life
For appropriate patients, reducing pain may help support greater comfort, mobility, and participation in everyday activities.

๐Ÿ’ก Could spinal cord stimulation be right for you?
Every patient is different. A comprehensive evaluation by a pain specialist can help determine whether SCS or another treatment option is appropriate for your specific condition.

Don't let chronic pain control your routine.
Take the next step toward understanding your treatment options with Premier Pain Centers.

ANXIETY MAY BE AFFECTING MORE THAN YOUR THOUGHTS ๐Ÿ’›

Anxiety can influence your sleep, concentration, relationships, physical comfort, and ability to manage everyday responsibilities. When it becomes frequent, even familiar parts of your routine may feel difficult or overwhelming.

Five possible signs to notice:

๐ŸŒ™ SLEEP CHANGES
Difficulty falling asleep, waking frequently, or feeling mentally alert when your body is tired.

๐Ÿ“‹ AVOIDING DAILY TASKS
Calls, appointments, errands, emails, or household responsibilities may begin to feel overwhelming.

๐Ÿง  TROUBLE FOCUSING
Anxious thoughts may make it harder to concentrate, make decisions, remember information, or complete tasks.

โšก PHYSICAL TENSION
Anxiety may appear as tight muscles, headaches, restlessness, an uneasy stomach, or a racing heartbeat.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ WITHDRAWING FROM OTHERS
You may cancel plans or distance yourself from friends and family because social interaction feels exhausting.

Experiencing these signs occasionally does not automatically indicate an anxiety disorder. Stress, sleep issues, physical conditions, medications, and other factors can cause similar changes.

However, if these experiences regularly interfere with your work, sleep, relationships, or daily life, consider speaking with a qualified mental-health professional.

Premier Psychiatry provides compassionate psychiatric evaluations and personalized treatment planning, with in-person and virtual appointments available.

08/26/2026

Persistent pain around the lower back, buttock, hip, or pelvis can make everyday movement feel difficult. If your discomfort is linked to the sacroiliac (SI) joint, an SI Joint Injection may help identify the source of pain and provide targeted relief.

The SI joints connect the base of the spine to the pelvis. When these joints become irritated or inflamed, pain may travel into the buttocks, hips, groin, or upper legs. Sitting, standing, climbing stairs, turning in bed, and getting up from a chair can all become uncomfortable.

An SI Joint Injection is a minimally invasive procedure in which medication is placed directly near the affected SI joint. Your provider may use imaging guidance, such as ultrasound or X-ray, to help position the injection precisely.

This treatment may help patients with:

* Lower Back Pain That Persists Despite Rest
* Pain On One Side Of The Buttock Or Pelvis
* Hip Or Groin Discomfort
* Pain That Worsens With Standing, Walking, Or Stairs
* Suspected SI Joint Inflammation Or Dysfunction

Every patientโ€™s pain is different. A consultation and proper evaluation can help determine whether an SI Joint Injection is an appropriate option for your condition.

Call Premier Pain Centers today at 469 562 4188 to schedule an appointment and discuss your treatment options.
