We hear a surprising amount of apologizing at SoulShine (and way too much in general…especially from women).
“Sorry, I need a break.”
“Sorry, I’m not very flexible.”
“Sorry, I can’t keep up.”
“Sorry, I can’t dance.”
Can we please stop being sorry for having bodies?
Take the break. Bend your knees. Lose the beat. Get completely confused about which direction everyone is going and laugh about it. Ask the question. Try again. Or don’t.
Nobody is grading you.
And that person next to you who looks like they have it ALL figured out? They may have been scared to death walking into their first class. They’ve probably gotten lost, wobbled, modified, rested and wondered what the heck everyone else was doing too.
We’re humans moving in a room together. It’s wonderfully imperfect.
So I’m curious: have you ever caught yourself apologizing in a class for something that really didn’t require an apology?
