What do doctors wish you knew about stroke? HCA Healthcare neurologist Dr. Adrian Jarquin-Valdivia says it starts with B.E. F.A.S.T. 🧠 Know the warning signs of a stroke and call 911 right away if you spot them in yourself or someone else.

Our broader HCA Healthcare network and the HCA Healthcare Foundation collaborate with the American Heart Association on Getting to the Heart of Stroke™ — an initiative that aims to treat, beat and prevent stroke.

Earlier this month, some of our HCA Virginia colleagues had the opportunity to celebrate Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association's100 years of service with other healthcare leaders across the state. Virginia leaders came together to view screenings of Healing and Hope: Hospitals' Legacy of Service in Virginia, a documentary produced by the VHHA, at six regional screenings across Virginia.

The documentary shares the powerful stories of patients and providers that illustrate the vital role hospitals play in advancing public health, strengthening local economies and serving communities across the commonwealth.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, HCA Virginia is proud to share that the HCA Healthcare Foundation awarded a $25,000 Healthier Tomorrow Fund grant to Girl Scouts Nation's Capital to help bring Girl Scouts’ Mental Wellness Patch Programs to more girls in fourth through 12th grades.

The programs help Girl Scouts learn about mental wellness, understand their emotions, support others and feel more comfortable seeking help when they need it.

This work is part of HCA Healthcare’s ongoing commitment to support the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

Some people assume an emergency room (ER) visit automatically means a long wait. The truth is more nuanced.

Emergency teams use triage — a system that makes sure the most medically urgent patients are treated first. That means wait times can vary, but it also means the sickest people get help as fast as possible.

Our ER team works hard to treat everyone as quickly and effectively as possible, and we strive for short wait times.

If you’ve had a baby, you may have heard of postpartum hemorrhage — severe bleeding after childbirth. While uncommon, it can become life-threatening without prompt treatment, which is why it’s important to recognize warning signs early.

Across our broader HCA Healthcare network of care, more than 200,000 babies are delivered each year. Clinical data from those deliveries helps us identify and implement evidence-based practices to improve maternal and newborn outcomes. This includes reducing elective deliveries before 39 weeks, strengthening blood clot prevention and using medications to reduce the occurrence and severity of postpartum hemorrhage.
