Thinking about finding a Biological or Holistic Dentist?

Not all practices use the same approach to oral health. Some dentists focus primarily on diagnosing and treating dental conditions, while others place additional emphasis on the connection between oral health and overall wellness.

Our Biological & Holistic Dentist Checklist can help you ask better questions and make informed decisions when choosing a provider.

Look for dentists who:
✅ Consider the mouth-body connection
✅ Use biocompatible materials when appropriate
✅ Follow safe mercury removal protocols
✅ Focus on prevention and patient education
✅ Evaluate airway, sleep, and oral microbiome health
✅ Offer regenerative and minimally invasive treatment options
✅ Collaborate with other healthcare professionals when needed

The goal isn't to find the "perfect" dentist.
It's to find a provider whose philosophy, training, and treatment approach align with your personal health goals.

Your oral health is an important part of your overall wellness journey. Ask questions. Do your research. Make informed choices.

📌 Save this checklist for future reference and share it with someone exploring biological or holistic dentistry.

Could Your Saliva Reveal Clues About Your Future Health?

Most people think of oral health as avoiding cavities and keeping their teeth clean. But science is uncovering something much bigger: the mouth may offer a window into overall wellness.

Your mouth is home to hundreds of species of bacteria. While many are beneficial, certain bacteria have been associated in scientific research with chronic inflammation, gum disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cognitive decline, and other systemic health concerns.

Modern salivary testing can identify specific oral bacteria and inflammatory markers that may help us better understand an individual's oral health environment. These tests are not designed to diagnose medical conditions. Rather, they provide information that may help guide preventive oral care and support conversations about whole-body wellness.

At BG Dental Wellness, we believe that knowledge empowers better decisions. Understanding your oral microbiome is similar to understanding your cholesterol levels, blood pressure, or other health metrics. It provides insight into where you are today and opportunities to optimize your health moving forward.

The goal isn't fear. The goal is awareness.

A healthy mouth is more than a beautiful smile. It may be an important part of supporting a healthier, longer life.

🦷 Bacteria in Your Mouth: Tiny Organisms, Big Impact

Were you ever taught that your oral bacteria could affect your whole body?

Most people think cavities are caused by sugar.

Not exactly.

The real story is that bacteria feed on sugars and carbohydrates, producing acids that can weaken enamel and disrupt the delicate balance of your oral microbiome.

But your mouth is about much more than cavities.

Your mouth contains over 700 species of bacteria and serves as a gateway to the rest of your body. Research continues to explore links between oral inflammation and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, respiratory illness, cognitive decline, and other chronic inflammatory conditions.

That's why at BG Dental Wellness, we look beyond what we can see with our eyes.

One of the most valuable tools in modern biological dentistry is salivary diagnostics.

Saliva can provide important information about:

✅ Harmful bacterial levels
✅ Oral inflammation
✅ pH balance and acid risk
✅ Salivary function and protective capacity
✅ Overall oral ecosystem health

Think of it this way:

Traditional exams often tell us what damage has already occurred.

Salivary testing may help us understand why it's happening.

When we understand the biology behind disease, we can create more personalized strategies to support long-term oral wellness.

Because a healthy smile isn't just about teeth.

It's about creating a healthy environment where both your mouth and body can thrive. 🌿

🦷 What if your mouth was trying to tell you something about your overall health?

Many people think dentistry is only about fixing cavities and cleaning teeth. But your mouth is connected to how you sleep, breathe, eat, heal, and feel every day.

Bleeding gums, chronic bad breath, dry mouth, jaw tension, frequent cavities, mouth breathing, and even poor sleep may be signs that something deeper needs attention.

Holistic and biological dentistry takes a different approach. Instead of asking, "Which tooth needs treatment?" we also ask, "Why is this happening in the first place?"

The goal isn't to promise miracle cures or claim that oral health fixes everything. The goal is to understand how oral inflammation, bacteria, airway health, nutrition, saliva, and lifestyle may be influencing your overall well-being.

Small improvements in oral health can create meaningful improvements in quality of life.

We've created a simple visual guide that explains:

✅ What holistic dentistry is
✅ Why oral wellness matters
✅ The step-by-step process of improving oral health
✅ How personalized care can support your wellness journey

What if one of the most overlooked factors in healthy aging isn't in your kitchen, gym, or supplement cabinet, but in your mouth?

Every day, millions of people invest in healthy food, exercise, sleep optimization, and longevity protocols. Yet many never consider how their oral health may influence inflammation, immune function, detoxification pathways, and overall wellness.

Holistic Dental Care for Longevity: Why Your Mouth May Be the Missing Piece of Your Wellness Journey

For decades, dentistry has primarily focused on repairing teeth, treating cavities, and restoring function. While these services are essential, a growing number of health-conscious individuals are beginning to ask a bigger question:

What if oral health is about much more than teeth?

As our understanding of the human body evolves, many people are embracing a more integrated view of health, one that recognizes the interconnectedness of all bodily systems. In this perspective, the mouth is not an isolated structure but a gateway to the rest of the body.

This is the foundation of holistic dentistry.

For individuals committed to wellness, prevention, vitality, and longevity, holistic dental care offers an expanded approach that considers how oral health may influence overall well-being. It is not about rejecting conventional dentistry. It is about looking beyond symptoms and asking deeper questions about the factors that support lifelong health.

A New Era of Dentistry

Healthcare is evolving.

Patients today are more informed, more proactive, and more engaged in their wellness journeys than ever before.

They want personalized care.

They want transparency.

They want prevention.

They want healthcare providers who understand that the body functions as an interconnected whole.

Holistic dentistry reflects this evolution.

It recognizes that oral health influences much more than a smile. It may affect how we feel, how we age, and how we experience life.

For individuals who value wellness and longevity, holistic dentistry is not simply another dental option.

It is an opportunity to align oral healthcare with a broader vision of lifelong health.

Because when we begin viewing the mouth as part of the whole body, we stop thinking only about teeth.

We start thinking about vitality, resilience, and the possibility of thriving for decades to come.

Your body is an ecosystem, not a collection of disconnected parts.

If you are investing in nutrition, fitness, sleep, stress reduction, and healthy aging, your oral health deserves a seat at the table.

Holistic dentistry invites you to see your smile differently, not just as a set of teeth, but as an integral part of your wellness journey.

The path to longevity isn't about doing more.

It's about making sure you're not overlooking one of the most important gateways to health.

There are many ways to close a black triangle — those small dark gaps that open up between teeth near the gumline. Some are faster. Some are easier on the schedule. But the real question I ask isn’t “what’s quickest?” It’s “what benefits this patient in every possible way?” For her, the answer was the Bioclear technique: the most minimally invasive path there is. No drilling. No removing healthy, natural tooth structure. Just carefully layered, injection-molded composite, shaped slowly and deliberately around her anatomy and her goals. I won’t pretend it’s the easy route. It takes time. It takes effort. It is, truly, a labor of love. ❤️. But that’s exactly what individualized care looks like — choosing the path that’s gentlest on the tooth and best for the person, even when it asks more of us. Worth every minute, every time.
