One of the most difficult aspects of liver disease is how silently it can develop, creeping forward without warning signs or symptoms. This is why spreading knowledge, nurturing awareness, and creating opportunities for early detection are so vitally important.

This year at the Minnesota State Fair, the Mayo Clinic Liver team is stepping out into the heart of the community, offering care where itโ€™s needed most. In just 3 days, over 600 fairgoers received FibroScan screenings, and the power of catching liver disease early is life-changing. For many, there has been relief and peace of mind. For others, the scans uncovered serious, previously unknown liver conditionsโ€”even cases of cirrhosis with no outward signs.

Reaching out and building connections within the community truly saves lives. Together, we have the power to change futures.

Thousands have come to the Mayo Clinic outreach and engagement booth, seeking answers, learning about their well-being, and finding support from our dedicated team. The impact has been profound, with one fairgoer calling the staff โ€œMayoโ€™s walking angels.โ€ At the core of all this compassion is a devoted group of employees and volunteers, sacrificing long days because they genuinely believe in prevention, education, and being present for every person who needs them.

If you find yourself at the Minnesota State Fair, we invite you to visit the Mayo Clinic booth, meet our team, and spend a few moments discovering more about liver health. Sometimes, a spark of awareness today can illuminate and protect the path for tomorrow.

How can we more effectively determine which pancreatic cysts could become life-threatening, and which patients might be spared invasive procedures in favor of watchful monitoring?

New Mayo Clinic research brings renewed hope, offering clearer risk predictions for those living with pancreatic cysts. The findings reveal that the three-year chance of developing pancreatic cancer or significant precancerous changes rises with each added warning signโ€”growing from about 2% with one concerning feature to 18% for those with three or more.

What stands out most is that patients who participated in vigilant surveillance had their pancreatic cancers discovered at the earliest, most treatable stages. This underscores how powerful risk-tailored surveillance can be, opening the door to intervention when it may matter most.

This important work is part of Mayo Clinicโ€™s ongoing mission to bring precision and personalization to the fight against pancreatic cancer, with an unwavering focus on early detection and prevention. Call 507-284-2141 to reach our clinic and learn more.
