But when a medical mom needed us, the Village still showed up.

This. This is my favorite part about the Village. 🩷

One of our medical moms has a medically complex kiddo, and right now, that kiddo’s sibling is inpatient. So tonight, we’re sending a little love and support to Mom with a care package.

The care package itself was generously donated by my husband’s aunt, and because we’ve had such an incredible influx of donations lately, we were able to add a few extra pieces of love:

And somehow, this next part might be my favorite.

A dear friend of mine/ volunteer Julie Dawn Tillman has been awake since 3 AM and worked ALL DAY. She left her shift, came to my house to pick up the care package, and because she is way too exhausted to safely make the drive herself, her husband said, “I’ll drive you.” So he’s taking time out of his Saturday to drive her to Children’s Plano just so they can make sure another mom feels a little less alone tonight.

I literally cannot make this stuff up.

One person donates a care package.
Another donates something to help pass those long hospital hours.
Another donates a cup.
Another donates a little self care.
One says, “I’ll get it there.”
And her husband says, “I’ll drive you.”

None of these people had to do any of it.

They just did.

Everyone gave a little piece of what they could, and somehow all of those little pieces came together to love on one mom during a hard season.

THIS is the power of love and support.

THIS is the power of the Village. 🩷

We have a fun little last minute opportunity for two local medical moms to join Rya this Sunday, August 23rd!

We’ll meet in Rockwall around 3:00 PM for drinks on the Village, hang out for a bit, and then head over to YogaSix Rockwall for a yoga class together. 🩷

Yoga is covered too!

This one is specifically for moms local to the Rockwall, Fate, Royse City, or Wylie area since YogaSix is offering Rya a couple of guest spots for local friends.

Please only claim a spot if you KNOW you can commit to being there this Sunday. Since we only have two spots available, we want to make sure they’re able to be used

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT 🩷 NATALIA

This woman… THIS woman. 🥹🩷

Natalia Nagy found Medical Mom Village on Instagram and reached out because she recognized me from Children’s. As it turns out, our kids had been admitted around the same time, their rooms were close to each other, and one of her twin girls is also a trach baby.

She told me she loved what I was building with the Village and that one day, when life allowed, she would love to help.

And let me emphasize this part: Natalia has TWIN medically complex little girls. She works full time. She lives almost an hour away from our home base. So my answer was basically, girl, absolutely ZERO pressure. 😂 We would love to have you whenever and however you were able.

At first, she was simply another medical mom we got to love on. We sent her coffee money a few times. She joined Rya for Yoga with Rya. Then she started giving back, making donations to the Village herself.

And somewhere along the way, she quietly became one of the women I turn to again and again.

Natalia has helped Rya set up and lead events like our Mother’s Day Spa Day and our recent resource booth. She has also become our unofficial resident “please take all the pictures and videos so Michelle actually has content to post later” lady. 😂 She has become a face for the Village and someone I trust to represent what we’re building.

But one of my favorite things Natalia brings to the Village has nothing to do with events or content.

Natalia is also incredibly empathetic and has this ability to see things from angles my Enneagram 8 brain sometimes blows right past. 😂 She has become one of my favorite people to bounce ideas off of because she brings a softness and perspective that balances me in the best way. She softens some of my sharper edges, and I am genuinely thankful to have her voice in my corner. 🩷

All of this while raising two medically complex twin toddlers, working full time, managing trach life, and driving nearly an hour to show up for other medical moms.

Natalia started as a medical mom who told me, “Maybe one day I’ll be able to help.”

And before I knew it, she became part of the Village. 🩷

Please join me in showing Natalia some love and thanking her for every mile driven, every event helped, every picture taken, every idea talked through, and every little piece of herself she pours into this community.

🩷 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: HEATHER 🩷

I’m honestly not entirely sure how this happened. 😂

Heather Rae Watkins Hudson started as a medical mom that the village supported.

And then somewhere along the way, this warm, persistent, bubbly, energetic, beautifully chaotic ADHD woman, who is quite literally my personality twin, started showing up in my DMs asking how she could help.

And she just… never stopped. 😂🩷

If you know me, you know accepting help is NOT exactly one of my strengths. But Heather is also not particularly easy to tell no.

Not because she’s pushy, but because she has this way of making you feel like you’ve known her forever. Like she already gets you, already cares, and has pretty much decided, “Okay, we’re friends now and I’m helping.” 😂

Before I knew it, the mom I had originally set out to support had quietly become one of the women supporting me and helping carry the Village.

And help she DOES.

Heather has thoughtfully put together several of our care packages, as well as the gift bags for our most recent Coffee & Connection. And if you receive a Village care package in the future, just know that it was carefully and thoughtfully curated by Heather. 🩷

She has driven HOURS for companionship visits.

She has connected medical moms to help facilitate supply exchanges.

She serves as a Big Sister in our Village Sisters Program, pouring into another medical mom and offering the kind of friendship and understanding that only another mom who has lived this life can give.

And unlike me, who would happily run this entire Village from behind the curtain and never show my face, Heather will actually get in front of the camera and make the videos. 😂👏

But what makes all of this even more incredible is that Heather does it while navigating medical motherhood herself. She is raising her own medically complex daughter, juggling what feels like nonstop appointments and everything else that comes with this life, and STILL looks around and asks:

“Who else can I help?”

That is the Medical Mom Village.

It isn’t about having an easy life and helping someone who doesn’t.

It’s moms who are carrying their own heavy load reaching over and grabbing part of another mom’s anyway.

Heather came into this Village needing support, and somehow turned around and became one of the women helping me give it right back.

And THAT is pretty freaking special. 🥹🩷

Heather, I am so incredibly blessed and lucky to know you. Thank you for being persistent enough to get past my stubborn refusal to accept help. 😂 Thank you for the hours you give, the miles you drive, the care you put into every package, and the heart you pour into our moms.

Most of all, thank you for being living proof of exactly what I hoped this Village could become.

This is a little outside of what I normally share on the Village page, but sometimes supporting our community means looking beyond our usual scope. 🩷

This is Josh. He’s 22, a student, and the owner of Prime Shine Detailing .

He recently lost his dad and has since taken on helping support his mom and little sister while continuing school and building his detailing business.

And y’all… this is exactly the kind of thing I want to see our community show up for.

Sometimes helping someone doesn’t require starting a fundraiser or making a donation. Sometimes it’s as simple as choosing where you spend money you were already going to spend.

And bonus: HE’S MOBILE. 🙌 He comes to you! So if your car desperately needs some love, maybe consider giving this young man your business. 🩷

🩷 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: RYA 🩷

It is LONG overdue that I publicly brag on my right hand woman, because at this point I’m pretty sure Rya Krueger accidentally signed up for a second unpaid job. 😂🩷

Rya has been by my side since I first started asking people to volunteer back in March, and when I tell you this woman SHOWS. 👏 UP 👏

Companionship visits? She’s there.

Need someone to host an event? Rya’s already raising her hand.

Need help brainstorming ways to get medical moms out of the house and connected? She’s got ideas.

See a medical mom drowning? Rya is already throwing the life vest.

For FOUR MONTHS, she has been helping one of our moms who needs a little extra long term support by taking care of her laundry every single week. And the best part? I don’t have to remind her, coordinate it, follow up, or babysit the process. Rya saw that this mom needed more than a one time helping hand, committed to showing up consistently, and she just handles it.

Because that’s Rya.

She also volunteered to create and host Yoga with Rya, which she pays for OUT OF HER OWN POCKET because she cares so deeply about the mental and physical health of medical moms. She literally said, “These moms need this,” and then went and made it happen.

Ma’am. 😭🩷

And anytime I send out the Village bat signal because I need someone to step up and help lead something, somehow Rya is always standing there like, “I got it.”

She brings leadership, organization, compassion, initiative, and the kind of heart you simply cannot teach.

The Medical Mom Village may have started as my crazy little idea, but it thrives because women like Rya decided to grab a shovel and help me build the whole dang thing. 🩷

So y’all help me love on Rya for a minute, because she deserves to know just how much of a difference she makes. 🩷

Thank you for showing up without being asked.

Thank you for seeing the moms who are drowning.

Thank you for helping me carry this Village.

And thank you for being the kind of woman who doesn’t just say, “Someone should help.”

You actually HELP. 🩷

🩷 YOGA WITH RYA 🧘‍♀️

Tonight, Rya Krueger hosted another Yoga with Rya, and this month she got to spend the evening with medical mama Madelyn H Jones. 🩷

And y’all… they forgot to take a picture. 😂

Normally I’m over here begging, “SEND ME SELFIES!” because obviously I want to share these moments with all of you.

But honestly? I kind of love that they forgot.

Because it means they were too busy actually enjoying the moment. Talking. Connecting. Moving their bodies. Getting a little break from the medical mom world and just being two women spending time together. 🫶

When Madelyn messaged afterward and said, “Today was wonderful!” my heart was so happy.

THIS is what Yoga with Rya is about.

Yes, there’s yoga. 😂 But more than anything, it’s about giving one medical mom a few hours where she gets to be poured into, cared for, and reminded that she deserves a little time for herself too.

And once again, a huge thank you to Rya for continuing to make this experience possible for our moms. 🩷

Today’s Coffee & Connection was at Addison Coffee Roasters in Forney. 🩷☕️

What started as eight RSVPs turned into just me and two other medical moms.

And honestly? That is the reality of medical motherhood. 😂 It’s a s**t storm sometimes. Kids get sick. Nurses call out. Appointments pop up. Plans change. You truly never know what your day is going to look like until you’re living it.

But this afternoon was simply wonderful. 🩷

First of all, Addison Coffee Roasters was SO good. The second you walked through the door, you were hit with that rich smell of freshly roasted coffee, and the coffee absolutely lived up to it. If you haven’t been, I definitely recommend checking them out. ☕️

But the best part was the company.

Have you ever met someone and just instantly clicked? You sit down as strangers and somehow an hour later you’re talking like you’ve known each other forever?

That is why I love these little connection events so much.

There is something incredibly refreshing about sitting across from another medical mom who just gets it. You don’t have to explain the chaos, the exhaustion, the medical jargon, the nursing struggles, or why plans fall apart at the last second.

They just understand.

Three moms around a coffee table may not have been the eight we planned for, but it ended up being exactly what it needed to be. 🩷

And of course, a HUGE shoutout to Heather Rae Watkins Hudson for putting together today’s gift bags! 🥹🩷 As always, she put so much love and care into every little detail, and they were TOTES ADOBES. 😂 I’m so thankful for the people who pour their own time and love into making our medical moms feel special.

Today also officially brought us to the end of our Coffee & Connection waitlist! 🥹☕️ But y’all have made one thing VERY clear: the Village wants more ways to connect. So while the waitlist may be done, we definitely aren’t. More opportunities to connect are coming, so be on the lookout. 👀🩷

Because this is the Village. Sometimes it’s a room full of moms. Sometimes it’s three of us drinking really good coffee. And sometimes it’s our Medical Moms After Dark Facebook group, connecting over dark romance, questionable fictional men, and enough red flags to fill a PICU. 😂🚩📚

Whether it’s Coffee & Connection, our book club, the Facebook community Medical Moms of Rockwall & Surrounding Areas, or whatever we dream up next, the goal is the same:

Giving medical moms more ways to find their people, show up exactly as they are, and just be understood. 🩷

🚨 ROYSE CITY ISD MEDICAL + SPECIAL NEEDS MOMS 🚨

Sharing this from our girl Ky Kinley because this is exactly what community is for. 🩷

If your child is in Royse City ISD, receives special education services, and is currently receiving or supposed to be receiving homebound services, Ky wants to connect with you.

She recently learned some important information regarding how homebound services are being scheduled and provided within the district. And y’all, she already did the hard work for you. 👏 She dug into it, learned what parents need to know, and now she wants to help other families understand their rights and advocate for their kiddos too.

You do not need to share any diagnoses, medical information, or IEP details publicly. Just reach out to Ky privately. She genuinely wants to help. 🩷

And even if this doesn’t apply to your family, please share it. We have a lot of Royse City families in our community, and we want this to reach the moms who need to see it.

Parents cannot advocate for rights they don’t know they have. 🖤
