After 1,301 days with her tracheostomy, Davanee is trach free! 🐳
Davanee’s journey began with a premature birth and a congenital diaphragmatic hernia that left her lungs severely compressed. After surgery at just three days old, she spent five and a half months in the NICU. Doctors recommended a tracheostomy so she could eventually go home, and although her mother, Marlene, initially struggled with the decision, Davanee’s bright smile after the procedure reassured her that they had made the right choice.
Throughout the years of medical challenges, her determination and fighting spirit inspired her parents and helped them stay hopeful. Marlene now uses her experience to support other NICU families through Hand to Hold at Texas Children’s Hospital, offering encouragement to parents who may feel overwhelmed and alone.
Now, Davanee is embracing life without her trach. She has already been bouncing, running, and playing following her decannulation, keeping her family happily on their toes. Her story is one of resilience, hope, and the power of family support and after a long and difficult journey, Davanee can finally say goodbye to her trach and hello to the rest of her life.
