This is such incredible news! Dr Gordon is an incredible scientist who has spent a lifetime trying to get her drug to the FDA.

One of the biggest challenges in helping sarcoma patients get treatment is finding a true sarcoma center. You are NOT a sarcoma center just because you treat sarcoma. A true sarcoma center needs a multidisciplinary team that includes Sarcoma Medical Oncology, Orthopedic Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, specialized Pathology, and Radiology working together and reviewing cases regularly. At the same hospital, not traveling around!
If you do not have that team, you should be referring patients to a center that does. With sarcoma, the wrong biopsy, surgery, pathology interpretation, or treatment plan can permanently affect a patient’s options. Treating sarcoma without the appropriate expertise does not help the sarcoma community. It can harm it. I can say as a fund that is sponsoring patients, I will do my best to make sure they never step foot in your hospital no matter what SFA, OI or Sarcoma Alliance says about your hospital. I have seen too many patients die because of lack of continuity of care!

New Study: Waiting More Than Two Months to See a Sarcoma Specialist After an Unplanned Tumor Removal Was Linked to Nearly 4 Times More Metastasis and Significantly Lower Survival

Patients referred within two months had a 96.2% five-year overall survival rate, compared with 64.8% among those referred later. Early referral to a multidisciplinary sarcoma center matters.

Geee, I wonder what it was for a super rare cancer like Sarcoma?

SYSTEM STRAINED: Cancer patients are waiting nearly two weeks longer for treatment than they did a decade ago, according to a study of more than two million cases published in JAMA Surgery.

Researchers tracked six common cancers — breast, lung, colon, pancreatic, stomach and esophageal — and found average wait times grew by more than 10 days between 2012 and 2023.
