🌸 A Weekend in San Miguel de Allende 🌸

After a week of leading our Walking With The Mother Pilgrimage in Mexico, I spent a weekend in San Miguel de Allende, and it is a beautiful city. Colorful colonial streets, graceful architecture, and a style all its own.

I arrived at the start of the Feast of Archangel Michael, so the main square was full of festivities and energy.

The food was wonderful, every meal was delicious and beautiful. The shopping is plentiful, and I enjoyed it, though my attention span for shopping runs short, and I did find some fun things to bring home.

A highlight for me was brunch with my friend Vera Lopez, talking about future collaborations and all the possibilities ahead. ✨

What I found myself craving was more to do: more experience, more meaning, more connection to the place beyond shopping and dining. That is useful information about what feeds me. I love to travel in a way that lets me immerse myself.

If you love beautiful architecture, great meals, and browsing artisan shops, San Miguel delivers.

🌹 Walking With Our Mother — A Week We'll Carry Forever 🌹

This is us — the whole circle, together at the Dreaming House with Alberto and Veronica, the family who opened their home and hearts to us all week long.

What a journey. Sacred ceremony, ancient ground, devotion, spirituality, incredible food, creativity, songs shared in circle, tears, laughter, and a group of women who showed up fully for themselves and for each other with love and joy. We are so grateful for every single woman in this photo, and for Alberto and Veronica's generosity & hospitality.

This is what you experience on an Exposing the Roots journey: deep connection, inner growth, joy, safety, awe, and discovery — the kind that stays with you long after you've come home.

🔥 Fire, Spice, Self: Mexico 🌶️

In Mexico we brought forward our first hands-on cooking experience, and it was a BLAST!

After a week of enjoying the delicious home-cooked Mexican food from the Dreaming House kitchen, we all stepped into the brand-new outdoor kitchen with our maestra Veronica and learned to prepare a traditional Mexican comida old-world style, over fire, using clay pots.

Here's the menu we created:

The main dish: Chiles en Nogada — an iconic Mexican national dish featuring fire-roasted poblano peppers stuffed with a sweet-and-savory meat and fruit mixture, draped in a creamy walnut sauce, and garnished with pomegranate seeds and parsley.

Alongside that we made (all from scratch): fire-roasted salsa verde, tortillas, grilled nopales (cactus) sandwiches for the vegetarians, mushroom soup, black beans, rice with tomatoes, garlic & onions, mole, huitlacoche, grilled baby zucchini, and hibiscus agua fresca.

OH MY, the food was wonderful! The ingredients were all fresh and beautiful, we learned so much, we sang, and had so much fun cooking together. It was a highlight for everyone in the group!

As a chef, it was exciting for Tina to create things in the kitchen she'd never done before — assembling the chiles en Nogada, prepping and grilling the nopales, and hand-grinding the fire-roasted salsa verde in a large mortar & pestle. CALIENTE!

Our next Fire, Spice, Self retreat is in May, in Sonoma — the home of the farm-to-table movement — followed by Oaxaca, Mexico in 2028. Registration is open for Sonoma, and the early-bird special ends November 30th. Link in comments for details.

✨ Ceremony as a Sacred Practice ✨

On every Exposing the Roots journey, we don't just visit powerful places and take photos — we become one with them. And one of the deepest ways we do that is through sacred ceremony, held at exactly the right moment, in each power place.

In Mexico, ceremony carried us through the whole week:

⛪ At the top of Tepeyac Hill, after standing before the tilma and stepping inside the chapel, we held a ceremony of standing in our truth — each woman naming who she really is, fully held by the circle around her.

🌬️ A breathwork ceremony moved stagnant energy out of the body and brought us out of our minds and into lived experience, rewriting our stories along the way.

🎶 Sacred song circles, led by Jeannie Farmer, opened her medicine bag of songs and invited us to sing together — voice as its own medicine, moving what words alone cannot.

💀 Walking the Avenue of the Dead, we stopped at every plaza along the way — each one its own ceremony of contemplation, asking where we've been shut down in our own lives, and what still stands between us and the self-love we are longing for.

🌕 In front of the Pyramid of the Moon, a self-love and rebirth ceremony gave each woman the chance to fully own who she is — and to receive, out loud, what the group loves about her.

☕ A cacao ceremony opened hearts and stirred something deep, led by Adriana, who tapped into her spirit guides and helped each woman meet something true in herself.

🕯️ And to close our week together, a closing ceremony held the whole circle — gratitude, love, and intention, woven through everyone who walked this journey together.

This is what ceremony makes possible: a transformation held in the body, in a place that becomes part of you long after you've left it.
