Men’s Mental Health Month matters because many men were raised to believe that survival is the same as wellness.

Keep working.
Keep pushing.
Don’t talk about it.
Don’t be emotional.
Handle it yourself.

But stress, burnout, anxiety, numbness, anger, isolation, and exhaustion don’t disappear just because someone is “high-functioning.”

A lot of men are carrying more than people realize.

Therapy isn’t weakness.
Rest isn’t laziness.
Talking about your mental health doesn’t make you less capable.

You deserve support, too.

June can hold a lot at once.

Pride.
Identity.
Visibility.
Boundaries.
Rest.
The pressure to keep it all together.
The exhaustion behind “I’m fine.”
The quiet work of becoming more honest with yourself.

This month, we’re talking about what it means to feel safe enough to show up fully as yourself, without shrinking, performing, apologizing, or pretending.

For some people, that looks like setting better boundaries.
For others, it looks like finally slowing down.
For others, it looks like being seen clearly for the first time.

And during Pride Month especially, we want to be clear about this:

You deserve spaces where you feel safe, respected, affirmed, and supported exactly as you are. 💚

Healing doesn’t always look loud.
Sometimes it looks like rest.
Sometimes it looks like honesty.
Sometimes it looks like taking up space without apologizing for it.

We’re glad you’re here.

Dear May,

You asked for honesty.
Not perfection.
Not quick fixes.
Just awareness.

The kind that quietly shows you what’s too heavy,
what’s not yours,
and what you don’t have to keep carrying.

Nothing dramatic.
Just a little more clarity.
A little more truth.
And a little more permission to let go.

Therapist? Yes.
Dog lover? Absolutely.
Believer in the power of a good pup cuddle? 1000%.

At Paula Lain Counseling & Co., we know healing doesn’t always look like words. Sometimes it looks like a quiet presence, a steady breath, or a dog curled up next to you.

Dog-assisted therapy isn’t just sweet, it’s effective. Research shows it can help reduce stress, anxiety, and even physical discomfort.

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service.

However you’re spending today, whether it’s with family, resting, or simply taking a moment to slow down, we hope you’re able to find a little space to breathe.

Our office is closed today in observance of the holiday. We’ll be back and ready to support you tomorrow. 💚

There’s a difference between being “too much”…
and being someone who’s been carrying too much for too long.

A lot of people don’t realize how heavy things have gotten
until it starts showing up as stress, overwhelm, or exhaustion.

This isn’t about being dramatic.
It’s about being human.

And maybe it’s time to put some of it down.

You might call it stress.
You might say you’re just “busy.”

But when everything starts to feel like too much…
that’s usually a sign your system is overloaded.

Not broken.
Not failing.
Just carrying more than it was meant to hold.

If even one of these hit… it might be time to pause, not push.

Therapy gets misunderstood… a lot.

Not because people don’t care, but because most of us were never taught what it actually is.

So we hear things like:
“I should be able to handle this.”
“It’s not bad enough.”
“I don’t even know where I’d start.”

Here’s the truth: therapy isn’t about being broken.
It’s about understanding yourself in a way that actually helps you move forward.

No pressure.
No perfect words.
Just real conversations and real progress.

Mother’s Day can hold a lot.

Love.
Grief.
Pressure.
Joy.
Distance.
Longing.

Whatever it is for you… it’s valid.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Not in a “fix everything” kind of way.
In a “be honest about what’s not working” kind of way.

Because a lot of the things that exhaust us…
we’ve been taught to normalize.

The overgiving.
The overthinking.
The constant pressure to keep going.

Awareness is where it shifts.
