Back to school means back to the lunchbox, the cafeteria line, or the dorm fridge. No matter what age or stage you're feeding, the goal is the same: nourished, not perfect.
We build meals using a non diet hierarchy, adapted from Rachael Hartley, RD, which means we focus on what actually matters, in this order:

Consistency: eating regularly throughout the day
Adequacy: eating enough
Balance: a mix of food groups
Variety: trying different foods over time
Gentle, individualized nutrition: fine tuning based on what feels good for your body
A balanced meal or snack can include a carb + protein + fat + fruit or veggie, and a drink when it fits!

Swipe to see what that can look like for an elementary school student, a middle or high school student, and a college student living in a dorm.

No meal has to be perfect. Consistent and good enough beats perfect, every time.
Save this for your next grocery run or dorm restock.

Intuitive Eating isn’t about following a new set of food rules. It’s about building more trust, flexibility, and confidence around eating.

Hunger is an important cue, but real life matters too. Satisfaction, culture, connection, schedule, and access can all influence when and why we eat.

There is no need to do Intuitive Eating “perfectly.” The goal is a more peaceful and sustainable relationship with food.

Interested in learning more or having the support of a dietitian as you navigate your relationship with food? We’d love to connect with you.

Dorm snacks don’t have to be complicated. A little variety and a few reliable favorites can make it much easier to stay nourished through busy class days, late night studying, and everything in between. 💛

We rounded up 20 dorm friendly snack ideas that are easy to keep on hand, including options with protein, carbs, fats, and, yes, foods that are simply enjoyable too.

We recently shared even more on the blog about stocking your dorm room in a way that supports eating disorder recovery.

Reminder: A lower appetite doesn’t mean lower nutrition needs.

GLP-1 medications can make it harder to eat enough throughout the day, which is why intentional nourishment matters.

If you’re currently taking a GLP-1 and want support meeting your nutrition needs, or if you’re considering starting one and want guidance along the way, we’d love to help.

Our dietitians can provide individualized nutrition support that helps you feel informed, supported, and adequately nourished.

Food doesn’t have to feel this complicated.
If eating has become stressful, rigid, overwhelming, or filled with rules, you’re not alone. Healing your relationship with food can take time, support, and a lot of unlearning.
Nutrition counseling can help you move toward more flexibility, trust, and peace with food.

Back-to-school season can bring a lot more conversation about food, weight, and bodies into kids’ lives.

The way we talk about these topics at home matters. Even well intentioned comments can affect how kids learn to view food, trust their hunger, and feel about their changing bodies. 💛

Swipe through for 5 things parents should avoid saying about food and weight, plus what to say instead.

Concerned about your child’s eating, growth, or body image? An eating disorder informed registered dietitian can provide individualized support while helping protect their relationship with food and their body.
