The nervous system helps protect the knee. This evidence-based review summarized 24 studies of neuromuscular and proprioceptive injury-prevention programs. The pooled incidence ratio was 0.731 for overall knee injury and 0.493 for ACL injury, supporting an association between these programs and lower injury incidence.
Strength matters, but strength without control is incomplete. The OFM Nervous System lens includes proprioception, coordination, balance, timing, and movement strategy. These findings reinforce why injury prevention and rehabilitation should train the system that controls the knee—not only the muscles surrounding it. No single exercise program was shown to be clearly superior.
