If you’re walking into every argument in your house thinking you’re keeping the peace… this one’s for you.
I used to do the same thing. The moment the tension rose, my chest tightened, and I was already moving toward it. I thought that’s what a good mom did. I thought I was helping.
But what I didn’t know? Every time I stepped in, I was adding my fear to their chaos. I wasn’t calming the room. I was fueling it.
The shift didn’t happen because I stopped caring. It happened when I finally understood WHY I kept stepping in, and found the belief underneath it that said if I don’t fix this, everything falls apart.
Once I found that? I stopped being the referee. I became the facilitator. Still present. Still grounding. But not carrying what was never mine to carry.
And slowly… messily, imperfectly, over time… they figured it out. Without me holding it together.
THAT is what’s waiting on the other side of this work. Not a perfect family. But a version of you that finally gets to just… be there.
If this is hitting close to home… save this post for when you need the reminder.
