We put so much pressure on ourselves to figure out what to do next. The urge to solve, plan, act- we're so quick to move toward answers. But an unsettled heart doesn't want to know what's next. It's asking something else: what am I actually feeling right now? How does it want to be expressed? How does it want me to be with it?

At Healing Arts Center, creativity comes in not to make something good, but to give that feeling somewhere to go besides your head. What matters is pausing and letting whatever needs to come out emerge and be released, in whatever medium you want to express it. Painting, journaling, clay, cooking without a recipe- it doesn't matter what you choose.

You don't have to be an artist for this to work. You have to start.

We think avoiding feelings protects us. What we refuse to face doesn't disappear. It just finds another way out.

We blame things, people, and circumstances. We cling to assumptions, narratives, and the thorns of our lives. We disown pain, justify it, and convince ourselves others cause our unrest.

Recognizing what we feel and how that stress shapes us is our responsibility. We must look inward and face it. Ignoring feelings doesn't dissolve them. Nothing unsettles more than ignoring how we feel.

Looking within, when we allow it, becomes a guide. Tears may come as we release anger, fear, rejection, judgment, and hopelessness. Letting go brings a physical release, easing the pressure of holding it all together.

Noticing how we feel creates space for emotions to move through instead of getting stuck. We have the wisdom to do this without resistance or defensiveness.

What we refuse to see in ourselves, we project. What we reject in ourselves, we fight in those we love and the world around us. When we don't face how we feel, those feelings show up in our behavior, and that behavior becomes destructive. Finding peace means stopping neglect of what needs attention.

When we turn toward what we feel, the cycle loosens. We stop fighting shadows and meet ourselves with honesty. This honesty opens the door to peace, connection, and the parts of ourselves we thought lost. Accepting feelings with compassion leads us home.

If you're ready to stop carrying what you've been avoiding, we're here to help you find your way back to yourself. đź’› Book a session at healingartsvb.com or send us a message to get started.

You cannot control most of what happens in life. You choose how you meet it: with awareness, intention, and kindness toward yourself.

Some days weigh so heavily that it feels as though your body can barely carry it, your mind tangled in knots, your breath trapped like a bird with no room to spread its wings.

When you permit yourself to create, whether through writing, dancing, painting, or anything else, you offer yourself relief. Creativity loosens what feels tight and frozen. It softens the edges and makes space for warmth to return.

In that space, you reconnect with the wisdom already inside you, the part of you that remembers who you are and what you are capable of becoming.

Let's retire the phrase "people-pleaser." It is not a personality trait. It is a learned survival mechanism, and a remarkably effective one.

It may have kept you safe, connected, and useful when you were young and didn't have other options. You learned to scan for what was needed. You learned to adjust yourself before anyone had to ask. You learned to offer the version of you that got the warmest response. These are skills. They developed for a reason.

A strategy built for a time when you were not safe does not automatically know when it is no longer needed. Your nervous system does not update just because your circumstances have changed.

The fear of not belonging often triggers this same nervous system activation. Breathwork and body-based awareness can help shift these states back toward safety.

Healing often starts with learning how micro-movements help shift the nervous system from immobilization to engagement.

The key to healing is restoring a sense of choice and returning to autonomy.

Some seasons gently nudge us, while others push us to shed old skin and start anew. The people we love, the routines we follow, and the identities we carry all begin to shift, asking us to examine how tightly we hold onto old behaviors or outdated roles. If you feel called to change, pause and notice what is stirring inside you. Ask yourself: What am I holding onto that no longer fits? What do I sense is asking to be released? The world can suddenly feel finite, and with that awareness, the need for transformation becomes clear.

Reinvention asks us to examine the habits and identities we have outgrown honestly. Change requires us to let go of what no longer serves us, even if that means surrendering familiar comforts or long-held roles. Allow yourself to be curious about what you truly want, even if the answer is unclear. We are invited to gather the energy we pour into others and turn some of it inward, meeting ourselves with patience and respect.

This process brings both liberation and grief. Reinventing ourselves means leaving the comfort of the familiar and learning to move through uncharted territory. Creating a new path for yourself takes courage, self-compassion, and a willingness to grow beyond the labels and roles you or others have given you.
There will be times when uncertainty and discomfort are unavoidable, when the pressure of change feels overwhelming, and it’s tempting to hold onto what’s familiar. But reinvention isn’t about abandoning who you are; it’s about making choices that better reflect your needs and values now. Give yourself time, trust the process, and allow room for growth as you navigate this new chapter.

A month ago, a new client came in for her first session and told me she was excited to be there and very nervous at the same time, since opening up and talking had always been the hardest part for her.

While she was telling me how nervous she was about being in the space, I noticed her playing with her ring and pulling at the strings on her top. She caught herself doing it and felt embarrassed. Her hands were already telling me where we needed to begin.

I offered a grounding practice, and she smiled, so we spent ten minutes there. Then a creative exercise, and as she worked through it, she began to open up on her own.

After she opened up, she noticed her body was getting tense and tight. I offered her a somatic practice; she said she was curious, and we went into it gently. The tears came up as she met her body with compassion, and this is what she said:

"When I open up, I always think someone is going to get mad at me."

"I have not been doing what I need because I am always protecting everyone else."

Every practice in that session started with a consent question.

I have been in rooms where people tried to force me to be vulnerable and shamed me when I did not. Healing happens when a person feels comfortable.

If talking has always been the hardest part for you, we can work with that rather than around it. Send me a message, and we can talk through what a first session would look like.

To protect our client, I've changed some details.

In my years as a practitioner, I have sat with people who are grieving. Sometimes it's the loss of a person or a pet. Often it's something nobody sends a card for.

A marriage
A feeling of safety
Physical or mental abilities
Friendships and social roles
A sense of purpose or self-worth

Grief feels hollow, or tight, or heavy, or achy. Clients often describe feeling like they're underwater, as if the world continues on the surface while they move through syrup below it.

When grief moves through us, the first thing most of us do is leave. Staying fully in your own body is harder than nearly anything else you will attempt.

Reiki gives you an hour of somewhere to stay while it moves. Nobody asks you to explain anything. You lie down, and you stay clothed, and I ask consent for hands-on light touch or hands-off hovering, and either one is fine.

Tenderly, gently, slowly, we befriend the parts of us that feel heavy and disconnected, so that we can stop leaving ourselves when it gets hard.

What if we welcomed the body as our home?

Breath is the invitation back. We follow its gentle current as it deepens, guiding us toward the ground of our being.

Our hands offer the anchoring. One rests over the heart, a gesture I return to when words fail, whispering what was never spoken: I see you. I hear you. You are not alone in this.

Nothing within us asks to be exiled or erased. Each sensation, every feeling, is simply seeking space to be seen, held, and allowed to move.

Our eyes find a place to rest, a window, a tree, a patch of light. This simple act reminds us of the beauty of the world, and that we are part of it.

When the wave of feeling arrives, we let it pass through: rising, cresting, softening, transforming. This is what emotion does when it is welcomed into movement instead of held in stillness.

The spark of life courses through breath, bone, and muscle, keeping a rhythm that has, all along, been quietly affirming our enoughness.

This body is alive and wise. It speaks in sensation, asks for care, reveals what it has been holding. Feet steady on the earth. Slow, trusting breath. The chair beneath us. Here is where we begin again.

When the mind goes still, you can hear the body and the mind talking to each other. They are either in love or they are strangers, and most days they are strangers. The mind wanders off to wild places, and the further it goes the less peace there is left to come back to. The breath is what brings you back. One breath, then another, and the two of them are in the same room again. When the mind and body are in harmony, their shared pulse feels like love itself. That is the whole return. Not a revelation, not a breakthrough. Just the body and the mind remembering they belong to the same person.
