Shepard Cancer Foundation

Shepard Cancer Foundation We’re not just raising money, were raising the bar of cancer care treatment for patients, their families and cancer survivors right here in Washington.

We know there is so much more to heal than a person’s body when a diagnosis of cancer enters a family’s life. Through the generosity of our community, we assist the Marion L Shepard Cancer Center in providing programs that address physical needs such as medication and transportation as well as emotional and spiritual needs with yoga and journaling to name a few. We’re not just raising money, were

raising the bar of cancer care treatment for patients and their families. We are proud to support the Cancer Center, which will continue to provide these, and other programs along with unsurpassed, compassionate care to heal mind, body and spirit; person by person, family by family.

This month, ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, the Shepard Cancer Center, and Spotlight on Cancer will shine a light on bone cancer. The trees on our campus will be illuminated yellow.

Bone cancer is rare, and there are several types. Osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma are most often seen in children and young adults. Pain is the most common symptom. However, not all bone cancers cause pain. Other symptoms may include persistent pain or swelling in or near a bone or an unexplained bone break.

See your doctor to determine the cause of any bone symptoms.

June is National Cancer Survivors Month, and the Shepard Cancer Center at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital recently hosted its annual Cancer Survivors Day event to connect with patients, survivors and caregivers—and to celebrate life beyond cancer. The event featured a family fun day atmosphere, with dinner, games, massages, bingo, ice cream and, of course, dancing.

Cancer Survivors Day is made possible by generous donations to the Shepard Cancer Center, which support programs that nurture the mind, body and spirit of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. Contributions also help promote cancer prevention and early detection.
