L+M Hospital Auxiliary The Auxiliary of L +M Hospital is a distinguished, non-profit charitable organization that was founded in 1914.

We were so excited to host our first The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Business After Hours in Baker Auditorium at Lawrence + Memorial (L+M) Hospital. It was a great evening!

And thanks so much to the Chamber for mentioning our White Caps and Capes exhibit featuring portraits of the Nursing Students from the Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing dating all the way back to pre-1913! The portraits are on display at the New London Community Recreation Center through July 19!

It’s been a busy and exciting week for the L+M Auxiliary - we had a productive and engaging Board Meeting on Monday night, attended the L+M Donor Appreciation Night and celebration of Lawrence + Memorial (L+M) Hospital President Rich Lisitano’s retirement, and ended the week today by hosting our annual Celebrate Nurses event with speaker Ena Williams, newly retired Chief Nursing Executive at Yale New Haven Health System.

It’s weeks like this that, although they’re crazy busy, remind us of why we do what we do. As we heard today from nearly every student nurse in attendance when asked their reasons for going into nursing, “it’s about helping others.”

The work the Auxiliary does matters - not because we’re the Auxiliary, but because the people we support are doing it to help others have a better experience, heal faster, be healthier, get through difficult situations, and a multitude of other things.

As we launch into National Nurse’s Month, thank a nurse…and everyone else in a care setting who does what they do to make our experiences and journey better.

We hope everybody had an awesome Thanksgiving! 🦃 Here at the Auxiliary, we’re thankful for everybody who helped make this year’s food cupboard giveaway possible! With the help of hospital staff and auxiliary members, we were able to compile 1,405 lbs of food and 72 turkeys! Thanks to everybody who participated!

To say the month of November has been a busy one for the auxiliary would be an understatement! At our annual gala this year, we presented the winners of the first annual John D. Neilan award, given in recognition of those who embody the traits that many knew John for: his giving nature and his dedication to the community. Congratulations to George Fisher of Fisher Florist and Pat Todd of Blu-Prints Unlimited for their well-deserved reception of this award!

We also were able to partner with Sarah St. Amour at J McLaughlin in Watch Hill to raise $200 to help support the hospital, and a HUGE thank you for that.

As always, we will continue to stay busy, with more updates coming soon!
