We’re grateful to Dr. Rami Major, PhD for her outstanding work as ASGCT’s 2025-2026 Congressional Policy Fellow. We are thankful for her advocacy and expertise to support evidence-based policymaking.

Dr. Major told us about her experience as our Congressional Policy Fellow:

"Though the problems that we are facing are large, my year in Congress taught me that there are plenty of capable and intelligent people behind the scenes working hard to find solutions. Science and scientific analysis play a crucial role in crafting effective policies, and it is up to all of us to make sure we are effectively communicating data that can drive policy. I will carry the lessons I've learned this past year with me throughout my professional career to become a better advocate for the science and innovation that we all benefit from." - Rami Major, PhD

Gene therapy is not always the first step when it comes to one's treatment journey. Before some cell and gene therapies can be given, patients first undergo a step called conditioning.

Conditioning can help by:
âś… Creating space in the bone marrow for new or modified cells.
âś… Reducing the chance that the immune system interferes with the therapy.
âś… Improving the likelihood that the therapy will work as intended

While the modified cells often get the spotlight, conditioning is an important part of the treatment journey that helps set the stage for long-term success.
