Lunges are one of the best exercises you can do for strength, balance, and everyday movement. I know they’re hard, but they strengthen your glutes, quads, hamstrings, and core. Kind of one stop shopping!

Want an extra challenge? Add curtsy lunges. This variation targets the glutes and inner thighs while training your body in a different plane of motion. Curtsy lunges can help improve hip strength and support better balance as we age.

I like to do them together. Start on a flat surface and then for more challenge use a step or add weights.

Strong legs are essential as we age! They help you climb stairs, get up from chairs, and do all the things you want to do for years to come.

Don’t skip leg day!

Every workout is a vote for the person you want to become.

When you choose to move your body, you’re doing more than burning calories or checking a box on your to-do list. You’re casting a vote for strength over weakness. Energy over exhaustion. Confidence over self-doubt.

One workout won’t transform your life. Just like one missed workout won’t derail it.

The magic happens when those votes start adding up.

Every walk, every yoga class, every set of squats, every time you show up when you don’t feel like it, you’re reinforcing the identity of someone who prioritizes their health and wellbeing.

The goal isn’t to be perfect. The goal is to keep voting.

Day by day, workout by workout, you’re becoming the person you want to be. And that’s a transformation worth investing in.

Remembering and honoring Gilad this morning. I discovered his show in the early 90’s as a new stay at home mom. I looked forward to working out with him every day! He’s was inspiring and knowledgeable. He helped shape how I teach fitness classes today.

Thank you, Gilad!

We are devastated and shocked to announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, friend, and inspiration to so many, Gilad Janklowicz.

Words cannot express our grief right now. We will share more updates and details later as we process this immense loss. Thank you for your love and support.

Consistency.

Showing up, over and over again.

Even when motivation is low, progress feels slow, or life gets busy.

Small actions repeated over time create lasting change.

One workout, one healthy meal, one walk, one positive choice may not seem like much today but those choices add up.

Keep showing up. The results you’re looking for are often found in the things you do consistently, not occasionally.

Yoga isn’t about touching your toes or doing the perfect pose. It’s about taking an hour to reconnect with yourself.

To breathe a little deeper.
To move a little easier.
To quiet the noise for a while.

No matter your age, flexibility, or experience, there’s a place for you on the mat.

Come as you are. Leave feeling stronger, calmer, and more grounded.

Join us for yoga this week. Your mind and body will thank you.

Join me on the mat tonight at 5:30💙

Planning for Obstacles

One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to start new habits is expecting things to go exactly as planned.

When does anything go exactly as planned?

Life gets busy. You’ll have days when you’re tired, stressed, traveling, sick, or just not feeling it at all.

You know there will be obstacles so plan for them.

Ask yourself:
• What might get in the way of my goals/habits this week? (Vacation, schedule change, appointments?)
• How will I respond when that happens?
• What’s my “minimum” habit on difficult days?

Maybe your 45-minute workout becomes a 10-minute walk. Maybe cooking a healthy meal becomes choosing the best option available. Maybe your perfect morning routine becomes just one small action.

Expect obstacles. Prepare for them. Adapt when needed. And remember, consistency is the key, not perfection.

What’s one obstacle that tends to derail your healthy habits?

Piggybacking on yesterdays post:

The easiest way to make a new habit is to connect it with an existing habit.

You do hundreds of mindless actions each day. You’ve done them so long you don’t even have to think about it anymore. Making coffee, brushing your teeth, etc.

Pick one of those habits and tie your new action to it. For instance…after I brush my teeth I will do 10 squats, drink a glass of water, or meditate for 5 minutes. Whatever. You get the idea.

You will have to remind yourself for a while but, with consistency, eventually it will become a mindless habit.

So, what are you working on right now? What habit could you tie it with? I’d love to hear your ideas!

June 1st…Monday…Sounds like a good day to start something new!

What would you like to be different by the end of the month? Physically, mentally, emotionally? Personal life, job related?

What are some things that need to change in your day to day habits to make that happen? Write a few ideas down.

Pick one and break it down to its simplest form until you are 80-90% sure you can do it each day (or however often it needs to be done).

What are some possible obstacles and how will you work around them?

Get specific: when will you do it? How will you remind yourself to get it done? What else do you need in place to make it as simple as possible?

Small daily actions can produce big changes but they don’t happen without a little forethought.

It’s just like a trip. Decide where you want to go. Plan the route. Have a contingency plan for possible delays and hazards. And then move forward.

One step at a time, my friends.

Have a great day!
