NEW BLOG: Why Conventional Cancer Treatment Isn't Enough: What Gets Left Out of the Room

Have you ever finished cancer treatment and thought, "Okay... now what actually protects me?"

You did everything asked of you. Surgery, maybe chemo, maybe radiation. The scans came back clean. And yet there's a quiet fear sitting underneath the relief, because nobody really talked about what happens between now and the next scan.

Here's what I want every patient and survivor to know: conventional treatment kills or removes cancer cells, but it was never designed to rebuild the immune system that watches for recurrence, protect the healthy cells caught in the crossfire, or address the gut health that immune function depends on. That's not a flaw in your treatment. It's just not what those tools were built to do.

The good news: the terrain your immune system depends on, insulin, inflammation, stress hormones, gut health, is measurable and modifiable. A recent 3-year study found a structured exercise program lowered colon cancer recurrence risk by 28% and death risk by 37%.

This week's blog walks through what cancer actually is, how your immune system already works to defend you, and where the real, evidence-based opportunities are to strengthen it, alongside your oncology care.

One simple place to start: add a daily 20-minute walk this week. It's one of the most well-studied ways to support the terrain described above.

Can AI Solve the Health Mystery Your Doctor Missed?

Have you ever asked an AI chatbot what might be wrong with you and ended up more confused than before?

You're not alone. This week I want to walk you through something I now see almost every single week in my practice: patients arriving with a list of possible diagnoses built from a midnight chat with AI, everything from a heart attack to a blood clot to acid reflux to anxiety, all offered up with total confidence for the exact same symptom.

Here's the thing: that list isn't wrong to look at. It's actually a reasonable place to start. The problem is what happens next, when a fast, confident-sounding answer gets treated like a diagnosis instead of a starting point. AI can't examine you, can't read your labs in the context of your whole history, and definitely can't ask the follow-up questions that actually narrow things down. That part still takes a person, and time, and the willingness to keep asking "what else could this be" until the real pattern shows up.

In this week's blog, I break down what the research actually says about AI and health advice: where it genuinely helps, where it quietly misleads, and why functional medicine in particular still needs a real person paying real attention to all the layers.

What Do I Need to Do in My 40s to Protect My Mind and My Hormones?

Ever blank on a name mid-sentence, snap at your kid over nothing, or lie awake at 2am wondering what the point of it all is, even though nothing is really "wrong"?

You are not imagining it, and it is not just a personality change. Cognitive fog, mood shifts, and hormone symptoms often show up together in your 40s, and they are deeply connected: hormones affect your brain, stress affects your hormones, and your gut affects both.

In Part 2 of our midlife health series, we cover the five things that keep your brain sharp after 40 (purpose, connection, mental health, stress management, and neuroplasticity), what actually changes hormonally for women and for men, why thyroid issues get missed so often, and how to test for the real root causes instead of guessing.

This wraps up our 2-part series on midlife healthcare. If you missed Part 1 (muscle, prevention, early detection, and lifestyle), it's worth reading alongside this one.

NEW BLOG: Is Wheat Really Behind Your Symptoms? Celiac, Gluten Sensitivity, or Wheat Allergy

Have you ever gone gluten-free just because you had a feeling, and never actually gotten tested?

You're not alone. New research found that nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide report gluten or wheat sensitivity, but only about 1% of us actually have celiac disease. That's a big gap, and it means a lot of people are avoiding gluten without knowing which of three very different conditions they might actually have.

Here's what I want you to know: celiac disease, non-celiac wheat sensitivity, and wheat allergy are NOT the same thing. They come from different parts of the immune system, they're diagnosed differently, and they carry different long-term risks if left unmanaged.

The tricky part? If you stop eating gluten before you get tested, you can actually erase the evidence your doctor needs to diagnose you correctly. Celiac antibodies can drop enough to look falsely negative once gluten is out of your system.

This week's blog walks through exactly how to tell these three conditions apart, what testing looks like for each one, and what to do if you've already gone gluten-free without a diagnosis.

Have you ever noticed how one specific food changes the way you feel β€” energized, foggy, bloated, calm? Tell me about it below. πŸ‘‡

NEW BLOG: PCOS: The Name That Blamed Your Ovaries

Have you ever been told your only problem was your ovaries, and left the appointment with more questions than answers?

For years, that has been the story for so many women with PCOS. Birth control to "regulate things," and rarely a real explanation of why the symptoms were happening in the first place.

Here's something big: PCOS just got renamed. It's now called Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, PMOS, and the new name finally admits what patients have known all along: this was never just about the ovaries.

In this week's blog, I'm breaking down:
πŸ’œ The 4 clinical phenotypes hiding behind one diagnosis
πŸ’œ The 7 root causes that actually drive symptoms, including insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, adrenal stress, toxin exposure, gut health, and trauma
πŸ’œ What a real evaluation should include (most women never get this far)

Full blog here: https://sh1.sendinblue.com/adv0vd6kclpfe.html?t=1784697585382

If you've been told your labs were "normal," but you still don't feel right, comment PMOS and I'll send you the link too.

And if this is the first time you're hearing that your PCOS diagnosis might be more complicated and more treatable than you thought, share this with a friend who needs to hear it too. πŸ’›πŸ’š

NEW BLOG: Your Implants Were Never Just Cosmetic

Have you had breast implants for years and started feeling like a stranger in your own body?

Fatigue that sleep doesn't fix. Joint pain that moves from your hips to your wrists. A fog that makes you write yourself notes so you don't forget your own day. If you've been to four doctors and gotten four different explanations, you are not alone, and you are not imagining it.

This week's blog is about breast implant illness (BII), a real, research-backed condition that a lot of women live with for years before anyone connects the dots.

A 2025 study of over 6,000 women found this exact symptom pattern in the majority of participants. Symptoms usually start about 6 years after implants go in, but implants often aren't removed for another 6 years after that. And when women do have them removed, about 8 in 10 report real improvement.

The FDA now requires implant manufacturers to warn every patient about this before surgery. If your doctor never mentioned it, you deserve to know it now.

Could Your Fatty Liver Be the Hidden Root of Your Chronic Disease?

It affects roughly 1 in 3 adults, and it is far more than a liver problem.

I see it constantly. A woman does everything right. She eats well, she exercises, she tries. And still her numbers keep climbing. Her blood pressure needs a second medication. Her blood sugar slips into prediabetes and her A1c keeps rising. Then her cholesterol climbs too, and her doctor wants to add even more prescriptions.

She is frustrated and quietly defeated, because no one can tell her why this keeps happening when she is doing everything she was told to do. And no one has looked at the one organ that quietly ties her blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol together.

Here is what I want you to know. Fatty liver is now the most common chronic liver condition in the world, and standard liver enzymes can look completely normal while it is already there. It is not just a liver issue. It quietly raises the risk to your heart, your brain, your blood sugar, and your kidneys.

It even affects people who are not overweight at all.

And there is a heartbreaking Catch-22: the fat in the liver drives high insulin, and high insulin makes it incredibly hard to lose weight. So people blame their willpower, when really they are stuck inside a biological loop.

The good news is that this is one of the most reversible conditions I work with, once we find and address the real drivers.

Do you think your chronic disease and symptoms could be linked to fatty liver? Take the first step here: https://sh1.sendinblue.com/ade6216kclpfe.html?t=1783490502819

If your blood pressure, blood sugar, or cholesterol keep creeping up despite your best efforts, comment LIVER and I will point you to this week's full blog. πŸ’›

NEW BLOG: How Do You Make Sure Your Last 12 Years Aren't Years of Sickness and Disability?

Can I ask you something honest?

Most of us spend our lives working toward a long life. We exercise. We eat well. We take our medications. We show up to our annual physicals and leave with clean paperwork.

But here is what no one asks: what will those years actually feel like?

A 2026 study found that the average person spends their last 9 to 12 years living with chronic disease, disability, and progressive loss of independence. Not a brief decline at the end. A decade. And for most people, no one ever told them that gap was coming, let alone that it was preventable.

There are three words I wish every physician used with their patients: healthspan, wellspan, and sickspan. They describe not just how long you live, but how well you live, and what the end of your life will actually look like.

And here is what decades of research and 16 years of functional medicine practice have taught me: the sickspan is not random. It is driven by six specific chronic diseases. And all six of them share upstream roots that are detectable, measurable, and addressable, long before a diagnosis forces the conversation.

I wrote this blog to give you the full picture: the science, the six diseases, the 8-domain healthspan assessment I use in my clinic, and where to begin today.

Because your last 12 years are being decided right now. You deserve to have a say in what they look like.

Read it now: https://sh1.sendinblue.com/ad9ycp6kclpfe.html?t=1782885849840

Do you agree that everyone deserves to know where their healthspan stands before a diagnosis forces the conversation? Tell me in the comments.

If this resonated, please share it. You never know who needs to hear this today. πŸ’™

NEW BLOG: The Pills You Take Every Day May Be Quietly Destroying Your Gut

Can I ask you something?

If you're taking a PPI for acid reflux, a beta-blocker for blood pressure, or an antidepressant your doctor started years ago... has anyone ever sat down with you and asked what those medications are doing to your gut?

Probably not. And that's what I want to talk about today.

A landmark 2026 study of nearly 400,000 people found something that should change every conversation patients have with their doctors. It wasn't just about antibiotics. It was about the everyday medications millions of people take without a second thought: PPIs, corticosteroids, antidepressants, beta-blockers, antidiarrheal drugs.

All of them show measurable, population-level disruption to the gut microbiome.

And here's what that disruption actually leads to: C. diff infection, which breaks down the intestinal lining. Leaky gut. Bacterial fragments (called LPS) entering the bloodstream. A chronic, low-grade inflammatory response that spreads throughout the body and persists for years.

That chronic inflammation is the common thread running through heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disease, and neurological decline.

In 16 years of practicing functional medicine, I have watched this cascade begin in the gut in patient after patient. And I have watched it reverse when we addressed the root cause.

Your body was designed to heal. What is standing in the way? For so many people, the answer begins in the gut.

I wrote this blog to give you the full picture: the research, the biology, the cascade, and the framework I use with my own patients to start turning it around.

Comment PILLS below and I'll share the link directly with you. Or find the full blog at https://sh1.sendinblue.com/ad5qnd6kclpfe.html?t=1782324790195.
