Instrumental Peace

Instrumental Peace Instrumental Peace is a virtual place to come to find comfort, community and peace through photography and music.

Instrumental Peace is a grassroots organization in Pennsylvania that uses music and story as tools to improve the quality of life for those at end of life. The music and story that is captured acts as a portal to our cultural heritage, giving voice to the ancestral memory and wisdom encoded within the framework of a favorite song. Instrumental Peace's mission is to pass down these stories and song

s to caregivers, loved ones & family members as a living legacy to be
preserved and carried forward to the next generation, embodied within the oral tradition.

Last night I had the honor of singing Blue Moon to a new client as she was preparing for bed at a memory care unit. Her shade was half drawn and the moon’s light illuminated the room as we sang the words together. These are the techniques that can be woven in to add warmth, presence, spontaneity and calm to an otherwise sterile setting. When I left my client was resting and at peace.

An update:

Instrumental Peace, LLC met with Life Care Administrators on Monday to introduce our pilot program, Carried Home. The response was very positive, and they are connecting us with their Senior Director of Wellbeing and Brain Health across all of their campuses. They see its potential to improve quality of life especially for those with cognitive disorders. We are getting closer to fruition.

Yesterday, I had the honor of talking about our Pilot at the Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies monthly meeting. There were board members and instructors there from across the globe. I am feeling the expansion and our momentum building!

Our Pilot program designed for Life Care Communities is one of a kind, backed by empirical research, and has enormous benefits for residents, families, and staff as well as professional musicians.

Here is a short summary:

Carried Home uses live music and guided autobiography to capture the life stories of transitioning older adults, which are then integrated into clinical health records by nurse educators to provide staff with personalized insights that improve long-term quality of life.

Please send us positive energy! We are so ready to put Carried Home out into the world.

I am always in search of quotes or even song lyrics that mirror my photos.

The photo is by far the most mystical I’ve ever taken. The shed sits on Simon Cameron’s property, who was Abraham Lincoln’s first secretary of war.

there are things that are known,
and things that are unknown,
and in between there are doors.”

My pilot program for live music and memoir has made the first cut with another meeting scheduled with key administrators on April 13th at 2pm.

I will be collaborating with nurse educator, Allison Maloney, whose research specialty is in Interprofessional Collaboration, and Stella Heysek, cellist and vocalist extraordinaire from The Capital Area School for the Arts.

Please send us good vibes on that day. If approved, this program aims to bring joy and peace to many seniors, families, staff members and musicians!
