☀️ Winter reminder! ☀️ Mental health tips #2

Apparently getting outside and getting a bit of sunlight is actually good for your mental health… and apparently Vitamin D doesn’t just magically appear because I thought about going outside. 😂

So, even though it’s freezing, I’m trying to make myself get outside, get some fresh air, see some daylight and soak up whatever Vitamin D the Melbourne winter is willing to give me. 🥶☀️

Basically, I’m a houseplant with responsibilities. 🌱🤣

Go outside. Get some fresh air. Get a little sunshine. Your brain might thank you for it. ❤️

Now… where’s my blanket? 😂

There are moments in this work that remind us just how special support work truly is. ❤️

Support work is not going out for a coffee, transport to an appointment, or cleaning, as some people may think. It is supporting a participant with building capacity, achieving goals, and even being there for them through the end of life.

Today, I am incredibly proud of our support workers who have stepped beyond their usual role to stand beside families during one of the most difficult times in their lives.
Supporting someone through grief isn’t about having the perfect words. Sometimes it’s simply being there, listening, offering comfort, helping with the practical things, and giving a family the space to grieve while knowing they aren’t alone.
And when our support workers are trusted to speak at a funeral and share memories, stories and words of love, it is a beautiful reflection of the relationships they have built and the genuine care they have for the people they support.
Funerals are emotional, overwhelming and deeply personal. To have the courage to stand up, speak from the heart and help a family honour someone they love is something to be incredibly proud of.
To our support workers — thank you. ❤️

Thank you for showing that support work is so much more than a job. It is compassion, connection, dignity, friendship and being there through all of life’s moments — including the hardest ones.
We are so proud of you. 🕊️❤️

Support workers B & C, the participant would have been so proud of you both ❤️ 👏 💗 💙

💚
Not everyone who smiles is okay.

Behind many addictions is a story of trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, PTSD, loneliness, or unbearable emotional pain. For many people, substances don't begin as a way to "get high"—they begin as a desperate attempt to make the hurt stop.

This is known as a co-occurring (dual) diagnosis, where mental health challenges and addiction exist together. These individuals don't need judgement. They need understanding, evidence-based support, and hope.

The reality is devastating.

Every day, around seven Australians lose their lives to a drug overdose. That's seven families receiving unimaginable phone calls. Seven empty seats at the dinner table. Seven lives with stories, dreams and people who loved them.

No one should have to suffer in silence.

At Chevorge, we believe every person deserves dignity, compassion and the chance to rebuild their life—no matter where they are on their journey. Recovery isn't about being perfect. It's about taking one courageous step at a time, even after setbacks.

If someone you love is struggling, don't give up on them. Your kindness, patience and willingness to simply be there could mean more than you ever realise.

And if you are the one struggling, please hear this:

You are not weak. You are not beyond help. You are worthy of support, healing and a future.

If you need someone to talk to, help is available:

💚 Lifeline: 13 11 14
💙 Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636
🤝 National Alcohol & Other Drug Hotline: 1800 250 015
🚨 If someone has overdosed or is in immediate danger, call 000 without delay.

Let's replace judgement with compassion, stigma with understanding, and silence with conversation.

Because every life is worth fighting for. 💚

We are so proud of our team of support workers at Chevorge 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️💁‍♀️👩
The feedback from participants lately has been wonderful to hear 😊
One of our newer support workers, Rebecca Michelle, was called a 'God send' and a 'blessing with brains'.
These are the things that make a business proud of the support workers representing the name ❤️ 💙 💖
Well done Chevorge support workers for all you do. For assisting participants with empathy, compassion, willingness, and respect 🙏 🫡 👏 🙌
You make the company proud 👏 and uphold the values.
Not all support workers are created equal but, not to brag, we have some amazing ones 😉

One very important topic for NDIS providers to cover with participants is disaster planning.
Chevorge is a proud sponsor of the disaster relief journal and we ensure our participants have emergency plans. Our support workers are trained on these plans to make sure we are as prepared as we can be. 😉🔥💧
Life can be unexpected at times and we need to be flexible to roll with it 👌 😌👏
If anyone would like a copy of the latest journal please email [email protected] and we will send a copy over 😊 😀 ☺️ 🙂 below is a preview of the journal.
Even one small step can ensure safety is in place... and dont forget to add the pets into your plans 😉🐾

Chevorge is proud to support local SES volunteers 🙋‍♀️ 👏 👍
They do such a great job alongside our emergency services for our local communities 🙃😍
And all as volunteers 🙋‍♀️🙏 there is nothing more precious than volunteering your time to help others in need ❤️

We take participants to their rehabilitation appointments in work hours but outside of work hours, sometimes our pets need to go to rehabilitation.
This super handsome rottweiler had a TPLO surgery done 12 weeks ago and is doing hydrotherapy at Aquapaws Canine Rehab Centre
Work and home life both blend into caring 😌 and appointments. 🤕😷
We get to learn a lot as we go and experiance new things in both areas of life.
Dogs can be a little bit tricky, as we cant just tell them what exercises to do. They need a little more human intervention and assistance 😉 thankful for the experts guidance and support that help with recovery 😌💕❤️

Vulnerability moment here 😌🙃
I personally have some physical diagnosis that cause a lot of body pain. (Lived experiance is the BEST teacher for helping others) I truly understand pain and pain medication effects on the body. 🤕🤒😷
I thought I would post a video of one thing that makes my life a little bit easier in one way. Hopefully this sparks an idea or inspires someone else 😉
These small things can help our mental health and give us that 'human' feeling back after a pain flare. 😍
NDIS is not just going to appointments or checking off some to do lists. Its making every day life easier and achieving goals together ❤️ building capacity and enhancing our experiances
