Island Girl Essentials

I think I inherited my green thumb from my mom. 💚 She can grow just about anything, and she absolutely LOVES her plants.

Apparently, some of that rubbed off on me! 😂

My Monstera, palm and banana plants all started out so small. I’ve watered them, fed them, given them sunshine, repotted them when they needed more room, trimmed away what wasn’t thriving…and just kept giving them what they needed.

And LOOK at my Monstera now! 🌿😂
It has officially turned into a MONSTER-a!

But as I was looking at all this growth, I thought about how much plants can teach us about taking care of ourselves.

🌱 A plant needs water.
🌱 It needs nutrients.
🌱 It needs light.
🌱 It needs good soil.
🌱 It needs room to grow.
🌱 And sometimes it needs a little extra support.

So do we.

We can’t continually run on empty, neglect our bodies and expect to feel our best. Our bodies need nourishing food, hydration, movement, sleep, sunshine, stress management and the nutrients that help support normal, healthy function.

A fascinating 2024 study published in Brain Research Bulletin found that women who were exposed to rose essential oil daily for one month showed an increase in total gray matter volume, with the biggest changes occurring in the posterior cingulate cortex—an area involved in memory, attention, emotional processing, and self-awareness.

While this was a small, early study and more research is needed, it highlights the incredible connection between our sense of smell and brain health.

I love that something as simple as pausing to inhale the beautiful aroma of rose can be part of a daily self-care routine that supports both emotional well-being and relaxation. 🌹
