"You had a really good 85%. And a hard 15%. Why are you only focused on the 15%?"

When Theresa finished her 70.3, she wasn’t holding her arms up in triumph. She was limping, in pain, and—honestly—furious.

A hamstring injury in the second half of the run meant her finish line moment looked nothing like the proud, strong image she had in her head.

It’s easy to tell clients to "practice gratitude" when things go well. But standing at the finish line, letting one bad leg of a race write the narrative for the whole day, reminded us of an important truth:

👉 Negativity is fast. One rough mile, one bad workout, or one setback can quickly crowd out the 85% of things that went right—the strong swim, the solid bike, and the grit it took to cross the finish line anyway.

Gratitude isn't something that just happens automatically. It’s a choice you make (sometimes through gritted teeth) to focus on what you built and showed up for, rather than picking apart the 15% that went sideways.

Check out the latest blog post by Theresa Le Sliworsky on why gratitude is hard, the math behind the "85% Rule," and how to reframe your own setbacks. 👇

Even movement professionals fall into the social media trap. 🙋‍♀️

I tell my clients with absolute conviction that rest is not optional—it’s where recovery and performance actually happen. I’ve said "LISTEN TO YOUR BODY" about a thousand times.

And then, while training for the Calgary Ironman 70.3, I opened Instagram, saw everyone else crushing daily workouts, and let social media FOMO talk me into running when my body desperately needed rest.

The result? Swollen, heavy legs, a flared-up hamstring, and an awkward lesson in taking my own advice.

In Part 1 of our 3-part end-of-season reflection, I’m sharing what happens when you let the "training noise" steal your recovery—and why comparison is the ultimate sabotage for local athletes.

Golfers: Are you chasing swing adjustments when you should be looking at your biomechanics? 🏌️‍♂️

Most mechanical swing issues—and recurring injuries—stem from underlying physical movement limitations. If your hips are tight or your feet lack stability, your swing efficiency drops, and your risk of strain goes up.

On July 13th, CANSPORTS is hosting a 1.5-hour Mid-Season Golf Tune-Up workshop at Eagle Quest Golf in Calgary.

This isn't just about golf tips; it’s a hands-on biomechanical assessment designed to break down your movement from the feet up. We will focus on:

Foot stability & balance

Hip & core connection

Shoulder mobility & rotation

Whether you're looking for more power without the strain, or recovering from time off, this session will give you actionable take-home tools to keep you playing strong all season.

🗓 Date: July 13th, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
📍 Location: Eagle Quest Golf, Calgary AB
🎟 Investment: $75 + GST

The numbers don't lie: We need to talk about our mothers' bone health. 🚨

After the age of 50, 1 in 2 women will break a bone due to osteoporosis-related fractures. In fact, across the Asia-Pacific region, up to 30% to 50% of women over 50 are heavily impacted by osteoporosis.

These aren't just statistics—they are our moms, aunts, and grandmothers. 👵❤️

The good news? We choose how we age, and movement is the ultimate preventative medicine.
🏋️‍♀️ Muscle is protection: Resistance and weight-bearing training preserve bone density when estrogen drops.
🧘‍♀️ Movement prevents falls: Activities like Pilates, walking, and functional training drastically improve balance, coordination, and reaction time.

It's time to smash the old stereotype that strength training isn’t for women. Let's get our mothers moving before it's too late!
