Inclusive gardening through Horticulture therapy ๐ŸŒฟ

This week marked the beginning of our planting season as we installed two new raised garden beds on-site for clients to enjoy and use. These accessible beds are designed to support mobility challenges, making gardening more inclusive and accessible for everyone!

One of the raised beds has been designated as a native plant garden to help support local biodiversity and pollinators. The second bed will become our food garden, where clients can grow and enjoy fresh produce throughout the season.

This project was made possible through funding from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, and we are extremely grateful for their support! Thank you for your continued support and interest in our Horticulture Therapy sessions, which are part of the Gardening in the Community Program.

Thank you to CRW Mia for hosting yesterday's workshop on the history and importance of where we learnt about gender inequity, the meaning behind this year's theme of which encourages us to have a mindset of generosity and collaboration, and historical Canadian women who have paved the way.

Clients also reflected on the Female role models in their life celebrating their Mother's, Grandmother's, Teachers, Service Providers, and more.

Earlier this month, DDRC client Cathy attended the conference to represent the DDRC'S Eco Club presenting on Water and Equity. As part of the UNAC Green School Project, the DDRC's Eco Club, led by clients Cathy and John Paul, has sparked eco-conscious conversations throughout our Agency.

This event is a catalyst for including youth with disabilities in climate action conversations where they've been largely absent.

Congratulations to Cathy, John Paul and all those who were able to make this happen! Thank you for making climate discussions more inclusive and accessible to everyone.

๐ŸŒ International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025

This yearโ€™s theme is about building disability-inclusive communities to support real social progress. At the DDRC, we believe this starts with a simple truth:

We work with individuals, families, and our community partners to create welcoming spaces where people with disabilities can participate fully, make choices, and live meaningful lives.

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to a more fair, inclusive, and accessible world for all.
