This is Part 2 of my little controversial take on why I don’t love the phrase “release trauma.” And I want to be clear, because this matters: I understand why we use that language. When people say they want to release trauma, they usually mean they want relief. They want the bracing to soften....

Why you'll never hear me say "Release Trauma"....

The problem with “releasing trauma”... This is Part 1 of a controversial take I have in somatic work: You will rarely hear me use the phrase “releasing trauma.” Not because people don’t have real experiences of relief, softening, opening, trembling, crying, shaking, unwinding, or letting g...

The mind and body are always communicating. So positive thinking can be helpful, it doesn’t automatically tell your body that it’s safe.

Sometimes your body needs more than a new thought.

It needs a deep breath.
A walk.
A stretch.
A shake.
A moment to reconnect.

Because healing isn’t just about changing your mindset
It’s about changing your state.

Have you checked in with your body today?

People often ask how I got into somatic training.

It actually started with yoga and meditation. As I worked with more people, I realized that emotions don’t just live in our minds. They show up in our bodies too.

The deeper I explored the connection between the body, emotions, and nervous system, the more I wanted to learn.

That curiosity is what led me into somatic training, and it completely changed how I understand healing and personal growth. ❤️

Pride, Visibility, and Nervous System Care

Wednesday, May 27, 5:30pm PT / 6:30pm MT / 8:30pm ET - Online

Pride season, protests, and high visibility situations can mean a lot of things for each of us.

For q***r people, it can mean visibility that’s beautiful and exhausting in the same breath. Grief and celebration living in the same body. The pressure to be seen, to be loud, to be grateful - even when your nervous system has hit its limit.

For allies, it’s a different weight. But it’s still weight.

That’s why we’re hosting Pride, Visibility, and Nervous System Care - an online event with somatic practitioner Stacey Madden of Mindful Somatic Wellness.

Everyone will leave with something real: a deeper understanding of what visibility does to the nervous system, and practical ways to care for yourself through it. No experience is needed, and comfort is prioritized.

Registration: Pay-What-You-Can suggested $10. https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/pride-visibility-and-nervous-system-care-tickets-1988957786280?utm_experiment=test_share_listing&aff=ebdsshios&sg=4a82877b466b01121bfa781dd79bc9020f86d7b614b9c6d013e314bffa9b6c9505f91c5bb5e12c98fb877d0c1ff3bf9b1b5556954ffab465cd4a711eeab344ad09f380b959c7983f61029abdb780

Hot take: your body holds what your mind forgets

Even when you’ve “moved on” or can’t fully remember something, your body often still carries the imprint of that experience. It can show up as tension, patterns, reactions, or that feeling of being stuck without really knowing why.

This is something a lot of people have started to understand through books like The Body Keeps the Score. The idea is simple but powerful. Our experiences don’t just live in our thoughts. They live in our nervous system, in our tissues, in the way we move and respond.

That’s where somatic work comes in.

Instead of only trying to talk things through or think differently, we begin to work with the body. Through movement, awareness, and gentle exploration, we support the system in processing what may have been held or left incomplete.

You don’t need to have all the words for it.
Your body already knows.

And when you start to listen, things can begin to shift in a way that actually feels real.

Sometimes in my trainings, I bring out a very special guest… my miniature skeleton, also known as Skelly.

And yes, people love it.

Not just because it’s fun, but because for a lot of us, what’s happening inside our own bodies still feels like a bit of a mystery. We live in them every day, yet rarely get to really *see* or understand what’s underneath.

Skelly helps change that.

Through this model, we explore the external geography of the body while also starting to feel into what’s happening internally. You get to touch, see, and connect with how your bones are shaped, how your body is structured, and how everything is actually working together.

Because this work isn’t just about thinking or learning. It’s about experiencing.

When you can visualize and feel your body in a more tangible way, something shifts. It becomes less abstract and more real. More connected. More understood.

It’s one of my favorite ways to help people come back into relationship with their own bodies.

For the Ones Who Hold So Much

Mother’s Day can bring up so much. For some, it is tender and joyful. For some, it is complicated, lonely, layered, or full of grief. For some, it is a day that reminds us how much care we give, how much we carry, and how rarely we are invited to truly put anything down. So this week, I’m thinki...
